Does anyone here practice Reiki?

I know fo some churches that do, but haven’t met anyone whose church does personally.

I love Reiki and it has proved to be very beneficial towards me and others around me. Any experiences that anyone would like to share?

reiki and the church don’t mix, reiki is more towards the pantheon way of believing, you know, hugging rocks and trees etc.

As far as I can tell reiki is incompatible with the teachings of the Church. Until conclusive and empirical proof is found that Ki/Chi/Prana etc is not just superstition and is actually an existing force (that we are able to manipulate) and subsequently is freed from Eastern mysticism then I think it will remain incompatible.

I know of many people who do Reiki, none of whom I could in good conscience call “Catholic”, although some are by name only.

Reiki is NOT just a way of healing, it is a set of religious beliefs, most of which are inconsistent with Christianity, as this Catholic answers link points out (half way down the page).

This suggests that it might be the soul or spirit that is manipulated, and probably mixed with the practitioner’s. That sounds very dangerous to me, and probably inappropriately intimate.

You don’t manipulate your energy in reiki. You just ask that God fill you with healing light. Then you transport that light into the person you want to be healed. You only direct the healing energy to the person. It is not possible to direct where in the body it goes, though. It only goes where it serves the highest good.

The reason there is no mention of God and Holy Spirit is because it isn’t a religion. Reiki is suitable for almost all religions because it let’s the person pray to whatever they are comfortable with. IN my case, that is God.

A: Reiki is not a Christian religious practice. It is from Japanese Buddhism and involves non-Christian religious principles (e.g., moving around one’s life energy or ki-the ki in reiki). The practice of reiki is not consonant with Catholic spirituality.

Firstly, Reiki isn’t a religion. Secondly, it didn’t come from any religon. Thirdly, you don’t move around your life energy. Life energy is the same thing as saying “God is in everyone”. The energy of the divine is in everyone. But it is not your energy that you give. It the the healing presenc of God. That just scratched everything that was given out of that link. Sorry about that.

I thought God was in everyone, making him universal. His divine energy keeps us alive. Therefore, he is a unviersal life energy. He gave us life!!! OFCOURSE HE IS THE LIFE ENERGY!

Again, the second link tries to categorize Reiki as a religion. The reason there isn’t mention of a specific God is because that would make it a religion. Everything written on that site is a lie about Reiki. I’m sure if you did some research you’d find how wonderful it really is. It’s even used in some hospitals around the world because of the miracles that God has worked through Reiki.

We had a nun in our parish who practiced Reiki.

Our parish pastor suggested (in the strongest terms) that she cease and desist.

I have always heard it is incomptable with Catholicism. I don’t remember exactly why, but I’m sure it wouldn’t be too hard to find out why.

I have a close friend who is a Reiki Master. While I have never experienced relief through his “treatments”, I have spoke to others that have…including my friend.

While I am skeptical…I don’t deny that some do receive benefit…by their own testimony of healing…

This is beginning to get to where Reiki is not compatible with the Church. If Reiki is not a religion, why does it require faith? And, why does it require faith in “God, Jesus, Goddess, (or) Spirit”? Who would “Goddess” be? And relying on “Spirit” without identifying the Spirit as the Holy Spirit, leaves one open to the possibility of evil spirits, which do exist.

If Reiki is not a religion, it should not talk about faith, or “Universal Energy” or “Spirit” at all.
