The pope said that?!

Wow…

I thought God was in everyone, making him universal. His divine energy keeps us alive. Therefore, he is a unviersal life energy. He gave us life!!! OFCOURSE HE IS THE LIFE ENERGY!

Again, the second link tries to categorize Reiki as a religion. The reason there isn’t mention of a specific God is because that would make it a religion. Everything written on that site is a lie about Reiki. I’m sure if you did some research you’d find how wonderful it really is. It’s even used in some hospitals around the world because of the miracles that God has worked through Reiki.
Jesus said: “I AM the Way, the Truth, and the LIFE.” You don’t need Reiki, you need only Jesus. I am living proof that Jesus is the Life. I am alive in spite of the death sentence that cancer imposed on me 5 years ago because I asked the Lord of Life for life.

Not everything done in hospitals is safe or grounded in rationality. The people who run and work in hospitals, e.g., doctors and nurses, are as illiterate about healing as anyone else. They just hope that they can cure and clutch at any “straw”, “snake oil”, or “eastern practice” in the hopes that it can alleviate suffering or even cure an illness.

My experience has shown that only God can give life. I was given a year to live by my oncologists and that was 5 years ago. My doctors are flabbergasted. It’s all just GRACE - a free gift from God - and what I give back to Him is Gratitude and service.

You don’t need reiki, chi, yoga, or any healing practice of a mysterious flavor. You need God! Go and worship the Blessed Sacrament, fast, and pray.

I don’t know if Reiki works or not. I don’t know if praying at the ‘sacrament’ works or not in effecting healing to the body.

I was given 6 months to live over a decade ago…“Get your affairs in order, and if there’s somehting you’ve always wanted to do…do it…soon…very soon.” are the words spoken from my neurologist.

I prayed I would be given the dignity and courage to die with grace and poise. My mom had died of cancer several years before and she died at peace…accepting death…I wanted to leave this world in gratitiude to the One who gave me life…then I experienced grace…astounding mercy and healing enough to continue living.

I believe the Light is given to all people…John chapter one testifies to the Light that enlightens every one…John 1:9 has been called the “Quaker verse”.

We all are given a measure of the Light.

Firstly, Reiki isn’t a religion. Secondly, it didn’t come from any religon. Thirdly, you don’t move around your life energy. Life energy is the same thing as saying “God is in everyone”. The energy of the divine is in everyone. But it is not your energy that you give. It the the healing presenc of God. That just scratched everything that was given out of that link. Sorry about that.🤷

I’ll read the other’s now.
Reiki is a dangerous New Age practice. All Christians (Catholic and Protestants) should stay well clear of it.

Reiki is a dangerous New Age practice. All Christians (Catholic and Protestants) should stay well clear of it.
Care to elaborate on why it is dangerous? No, it isn’t just New Age. Or shall I just accept that it is dangerous despite my experiences and mindlessly listen to you?

Do you mean some within the Church, such as individual priests and such, or the Catholic Church Herself?

Can you provide some examples of the lies She tells?
If you look at the links the a poster gave on me the first page you’ll see all of the lies. More individual priests, since people in the church practice reiki.

This is beginning to get to where Reiki is not compatible with the Church. If Reiki is not a religion, why does it require faith? And, why does it require faith in “God, Jesus, Goddess, (or) Spirit”? Who would “Goddess” be? And relying on “Spirit” without identifying the Spirit as the Holy Spirit, leaves one open to the possibility of evil spirits, which do exist.

If Reiki is not a religion, it should not talk about faith, or “Universal Energy” or “Spirit” at all.
  1. Everything requires faith. I have great faith that my parents love me. Does that make my faith in my parents a religion? no.
  2. God, Jesus, Goddess, Spirit, etc. I meant that it incorporates whichever one of these you feel comfortable with in your reiki practice. Reiki does not come from us, but the divine source of this energy, God.
  3. The Spirit is the Native American version of God. As long as it’s good you seek, you can’t be harmed.

Why should we mindlessly listen to you? You are the one who has permeated this thread and the thread on Vision quests and it is obvious that you have an agenda. So what is it?

Did you not say before on that very same thread that there were multiple truths? Why not just come right out with what you think is true? Or is everything true to you? My truth is that you are anti-Catholic. What’s yours?

Reiki is a greater form of incorporating God into our lives. It gives us much mroe faith, and later that faith turns into fact as we experience miracles. Reiki is a form of the grace of which you speak. I prayed to God every night for a year that my cat wouldn’t die of cancer, but he did. And not only that, but within a month my other cat died as well. With reiki my life has really changed.

Reiki is not just used for physical illnesses. It heals on the mental, emotional, and spiritual levels as well. It has helped me with so many problems in my life and now I can see them much clearer.

If I was anti-Catholic, I’d hate myself, which would be very confusing…

What are you talking about? I’m only sharing my opinions on the matter. And someone actually agreed with me, 2. Not everything is true to me, but your truth isn’t the only truth.

And you aren’t mindlessly listening to me. If I said “Catholics are evil and devlish beings” you’d want me to back up my opi nion, wouldn’t you? That’s what I have done.

Dear Denise
You can learn all about their questionable practices on the Internet. For example, here is what the Catholics United for the Faith web site says:

Reiki

Issue: What is Reiki? Is there medical evidence that Reiki is effective? Is Reiki compatible with the Catholic faith?

Response: Reiki (“ray-key”) means “universal life energy” or "universal life force.

Discussion: Mikao Usui, a Buddhist monk, is said to have “rediscovered” Reiki in 1914 while praying and fasting on a retreat. He also understood that he was to share this healing power with others. The term “Reiki” comes from “Rei” (whose simplest meaning is “universal”) and “ki” (“life force” or “life energy”). Reiki became pervasive in Japan, was introduced in Hawaii by Hawayo Takata in 1930, and reached the U.S. mainland in the early 1970s.

Reiki (“ray-key”) means “universal life energy” or “universal life force.” Advocates describe Reiki as “a hands-on spiritual healing tradition”[1] in which “spiritual energy” is communicated from one individual to another. Regarding its effectiveness, even Reiki practitioners acknowledge that “evidence for the efficacy of Reiki is mostly anecdotal, and clinical research is minimal.”[2]

Reiki has foundational beliefs and practices that are irreconcilable with Catholicism, including not recognizing Jesus as a divine Person and the Savior of all mankind. Reiki involves a belief similar to pantheism, in which a universal life energy—not Jesus—provides life to all living beings and is also said to govern the Reiki healing process. Because Reiki practitioners believe they can harness and use this universal life energy, Reiki is not simply a form of superstition but rather opens oneself up to dangerous involvement in the occult practices of divination and magic (cf. Catechism of the Catholic Church, nos. 2111, 2116-17).

Reiki students ascend through levels of proficiency. Masters pass on Reiki to students through “attunements,” a process that involves the laying on of hands and which is said to open “recipients’ channels to facilitate the flow of Reiki.”[3]

While it has the appearance of physical therapy, Reiki does not rely on a therapist’s skilled hands. Rather, to aid the healing process, Reiki practitioners rely on spiritual agents which, upon close examination, are non-Christian. (cuf.org/faithfacts/details_view.asp?ffID=200*)

Bet ya found that on an anti-reiki site, didn’t ya?

Actually since reiki isn’t a religion it stays away from everything and just refers to God as the divine. Jesus IS the universal life energy!

No, not an anti reiki site, they said quite clearly it is from the EWTN Q&A page. Reiki may not be a religion but it draws heavily on Eastern mysticism and religious concepts that are incompatible with Catholic (and moreover Christian as a whole) teachings.

Again, why is it incompatible? No one has answered this yet…

I think you’ll find everybody has answered quite well. These teachings are incompatible in the same way that Witchcraft etc is incompatible. While it may not be a religion it is a belief system. It is a belief system in which humans are led to believe that they can control Supernatural forces, a ‘‘universal life force’’ which you likened to God. This, in essence leads people to believe that they are controlling the will of God, manipulating His power for their own needs. If they do not equate Ki with God, then they begin to believe that they are doing this under their own power, becoming proud and abandoning God. This is just a long winded version of what everything else has been saying.

Very well put.

Reiki strongly points out that you are a healing facilitator, not a God! If you were truly into Reiki you’d know this thus it isn’t a problem. It isn’t supernatural, unless you think God is supernatural. Reiki cannot be manipulated. You can direct it towards people, but God chooses what exactly it will do. So using it for evil is impossible. It’s the same thing as using God for evil.

Of course God is supernatural (from the latin super-’‘above’’ nature) The Lord God is very much above nature. I never said it was used for evil. I said that the belief that you are in control of these forces will lead to pride. If you direct it but God chooses what it will do…why does he need you to direct it? Is God incapable of using His own powers? And I am not ‘‘into reiki’’, I simply know about these things and their relation to my faith.

I didn’t know if you meant supernatural as in ghosts etc. or like the definition above. I agree with you there.

Then why do we pray? Why do we go to Church? Reiki will help us develope our beliefs and help us become more attuned to the source of all light, God. That is why it is good.
