Seems to me that a faithful Catholic would take this to heart and stay away from such practices.
Amen. Nothing is more healing than the sacraments of the Church. Reiki is dangerous and I pray for those who have been deceived by this new age practice.

I thought Reiki was some form of witchcraft, if it is then it is certainly not compatible with Christianity.
Just playing Devil’s Advocate here, but at one time the Church accepted Astrology… albeit a very long time ago… heh…

Questions for all you reiki lovers!
  1. Do you believe Jesus is God?
  2. Do you believe Jesus set up the one true, Holy, Catholic and Apostolic Church?
  3. Do you believe that the Magesterium have the authority from God to teach faith and morals?
  4. Are you really trying to find out whether reiki and Christianity are compatable, or are you just here trying to convince us that the Church has got it all wrong?
  5. Even if we could convince you that Reiki is incompatable with Christianity (in a way you understood), would you stop practicing?
The proof shows that Reiki and Christianity are NOT compatible. Check out the links and reasons throughout the thread.
Reiki is a form of MAGIC! It has been condemned by the Church and in scripture.
If you decide that you want to continue to use reiki to “heal” people then fine! We’ve told you what we Know, we’ve shared our experiences and we’ve pointed you to the Church’s offical teachings. You’ve been warned!

Reiki is NOT compatable with Christianity. period.

If you truly want to help heal people, use the means the Church HAS approved. Namely the Sacraments.

I will pray the spirit of DECEPTION will lose his hold on you, and that you will accept what the Church’s stance is on the matter.

Yours, in Jesus and Mary

This was never doctrine. But, much like now when individuals within the Church are promoting pagan rituals (i.e. reiki), an outsider could believe that it’s OK for Catholics. 😦 Or worse yet other Catholics could be fooled!

Hello, you might be interested in visiting the Catholics United for Christ website: cuf.org/faithfacts/details_view.asp?ffID=200

There they address whether or not Reiki is compatible with the Catholic faith. The answer is “no” but they have goods reasons as to why it is not.

Additionally I find it very distressing that some of our Catholic Universities and Hospitals are treating and practicing Reiki!!!

Best wishes, Aunt MA

Thanks Aunt MA, This IS a good website, and it has been linked to this thread a number of times already, but some people just don’t want to hear reason, so we can’t force them to :banghead:

I know of Exorcists in Europe, who report that they are having an awful time in their ministry due to Reiki? Makes you think, huh? 🤷

things ive noted about htis reiki thing-it has 3 “degrees” and apparently a “grand master”,as does freemasonary.you say you invke the Holy Spirit by laying of hands-are you a priest or bishop?you say you move the spirit/life force-the spirit is immeterial and not able to be manipulated-those johovas whitnesses think that the Holy Spirit is just a wind-not a person of the Trinity-and therefore it can be manipulated.the devil wants you to go away from the Chruch and the traditions of the apostles and therefore away form God.if you want true spiritual healing then theats what the sacrament of extreme-unction is for, where the Holy Spirit is doing His work.all i have to say is that this sort of thing is bad.just because a nun or priest tells you somthing does not mean they are representing the church or its holy tradition. there is alot of crazy new age stuff and it is all bad news because that is how people become possessed-this “spirit” you summon may be a angel of darkness pretending to be something good, and then possessing the person and then healing him so they can give their deamon buddies yet another way of corrupting a persons soul-they are not stupid, just evil. that sister joan chittern (or whatever) talks about this ****,and she and others are spreading errors of occult practices-have a look at this

catholicculture.org/library/view.cfm?recnum=7620#1

now that sort of thing is happening all over the place-people have beome fearless of God and this is not good.the further away you get from the Church the closer you get to the devil and hell.does it really make sence to go into eastern “mystic” teritory, where Christ the Ture God is not recognised, neither is His Father-they have gods that are elephants with 20 arms and stuff.if you believe God to be Father Son and Holy Spirit then you will stop this reiki thing-but you probably wont, this could be due to a deamonic force, but i hope for your sake that you do stop because its just too bigger risk to take.good luck mate, remember that the church is incredible and full of so much divine power that all your needs can be satisfied-you only have to seek and you will find, ask (pray)so that you may be given.

Can anyone tell me how exactly reiki is incompatible with the Church? It’s funny you jump right to witch craft, because people who practice witch craft and people who practice reiki make them as separate as possible. Hugging rocks and trees? These are racial stereo types about hippies. People who practice reiki aren’t even hippies! I find them very creepy, especially since most of them smoked pot etc.
All of the eastern religions and practices (Reiki, Yoga, Budhism, etc) are Gnostic in nature. Also as you progress through them the end point is essentially making man or you into God. The fullness of God (that we can understand) is revealed in sacred scripture and tradition.

Issue: What is Reiki? Is there medical evidence that Reiki is effective? Is Reiki compatible with the Catholic faith?

Response: Reiki (“ray-key”) means “universal life energy” or “universal life force.” Advocates describe Reiki as "a hands-on spiritual healing tradition"1 in which “spiritual energy” is communicated from one individual to another. Regarding its effectiveness, even Reiki practitioners acknowledge that "evidence for the efficacy of Reiki is mostly anecdotal, and clinical research is minimal."2

Reiki has foundational beliefs and practices that are irreconcilable with Catholicism, including not recognizing Jesus as a divine Person and the Savior of all mankind. Reiki involves a belief similar to pantheism, in which a universal life energy—not Jesus—provides life to all living beings and is also said to govern the Reiki healing process. Because Reiki practitioners believe they can harness and use this universal life energy, Reiki is not simply a form of superstition but rather opens oneself up to dangerous involvement in the occult practices of divination and magic (cf. Catechism of the Catholic Church, nos. 2111, 2116-17).

Discussion: Mikao Usui, a Buddhist monk, is said to have “rediscovered” Reiki in 1914 while praying and fasting on a retreat. He also understood that he was to share this healing power with others. The term “Reiki” comes from “Rei” (whose simplest meaning is “universal”) and “ki” (“life force” or “life energy”). Reiki became pervasive in Japan, was introduced in Hawaii by Hawayo Takata in 1930, and reached the U.S. mainland in the early 1970s.

Reiki students ascend through levels of proficiency. Masters pass on Reiki to students through “attunements,” a process that involves the laying on of hands and which is said to open "recipients’ channels to facilitate the flow of Reiki."3

While it has the appearance of physical therapy, Reiki does not rely on a therapist’s skilled hands. Rather, to aid the healing process, Reiki practitioners rely on spiritual agents which, upon close examination, are non-Christian.

Hi

there is an excellent website which has links to the vatican offical web site, to do with reiki etc. If the link doesn’t work, then type in “Reiki and the catholic faith” in google search and then click on the first web page which is CUF.org, this makes it quite clear what the problems are of these things. here is the link if it works:
cuf.org/faithfacts/details_view.asp?ffID=200

God Bless you and you will be in my prayers.
Eileen
