No, I am not selling it. I am only pointing you all to a disscertation where christian and reiki healing are compared in a somewhat objective matter and were proven to be contray to each other.
Reiki is an emerging adjunctive therapy that claims to provide physical and psychological healing as well as an experience of spiritual connection. It is increasingly employed in counseling centers, hospitals, and even churches. Reiki is believed by many to be a safe, non-invasive healing intervention that draws individuals towards God. Reiki practitioners maintain that they imitate Jesus’ laying on of hands and claim that their praxis is essentially the same as the healing used by Jesus as well as by Buddha.
An ethnographic multi-case study was performed comparing the experiences of nine individuals, four who received Reiki therapy and five who received Christ-based hands-on healing. The long interview format was employed. The transcribed data were coded and analyzed for similar and distinct themes. In addition, a brief survey was utilized to determine the spiritual interests and involvement of each participant and the spiritual consequences of their healing experiences.
The findings indicate that Reiki healing is distinct from that which is depicted in the Bible. Reiki appears to open up individuals to an “energy-based” healing modality that is spiritual in nature but is not specifically Christian. As reported by Reiki practitioners, it is a spirituality which welcomes shamanism, psychic healing, clairvoyance, spirit guides, and a host of other metaphysical practices as individuals become more intimately involved. In addition, the research demonstrates that Reiki therapy, over time, can cause physical, emotional, and spiritual harm. The writer contends that biblical healing, which at its core is soteriological and dependent upon the ministry of the Holy Spirit, heals mind, body, and spirit without harmful consequences.

I would flee Reiki or anything that refers to spirit forces. We have a group of nuns north of Houston that do the same thing. When I my wife found out they also practiced Reike, she cancelled her retreat, informed the women that were going with her, and all but one of them cancelled.

There are spirit forces out there, but you don’t really want to mess with them, be it Reike, Ouiji, or seance.

My wife of 24 years was introduced to Reiki last month as she was looking for some spiritual healing in dealing with the impending death of her father… Her experience also got her “attuned” enough to ask me for a divorce.

Both good Catholics. I dont want her to enter our church until she renounces this stuff… Doubt that will happen though

Hi

there is an excellent website which has links to the vatican offical web site, to do with reiki etc. If the link doesn’t work, then type in “Reiki and the catholic faith” in google search and then click on the first web page which is CUF.org, this makes it quite clear what the problems are of these things. here is the link if it works:
cuf.org/faithfacts/details_view.asp?ffID=200

God Bless you and you will be in my prayers.
Eileen
I was just about to post the same link! This is a great summary of Reiki from a Catholic perspective.

It seems that Reiki is suspicious at best. You could try contacting the diocese, though do not be surprised if nothing comes of it.

It’s, unfortunately, not uncommon for many groups of nuns today to promote more “new age” types of spirituality. It’s interesting that most of these orders that do this are rapidly dwindling in numbers as the average age goes may up. In the meantime, those orders that have gone back to the habit and promote more traditional types of spirituality are the ones that are growing leaps and bounds. It gives me hope that we won’t have to endure such tings forever!

I did contact the bishop in our area and he saw it as an expectable practice. Unreal! Some bishops are as out of touch as our presidential candidates.

I wonder if the Church knows about educating yourself into ignorance. I think some of our bishops have done this unfortunately. God help us!

I printed that page out and left it inconspicuosely on her dresser with the hope she will find it. I also sent a copy to friends I think might help.

I asked her today the religious affiliation of her friends at work theat introduced hert o this cult and to no surprise we had an ex-Catholic, and a non practicing person in any religion.

I went and met her Reiki master and went to a session. Did nothing for me, but did findout that the Master is a ordained? minister in the Unitarian Church. She evokes the term Gods Will on many occasion.

When I looked up the Unitarian Church there is no mention of God anywhere.

I’m scared for my wife that she is recieving guidance from a woman and a cult that will be at odds with our faith, and sure as heck don’t want our kids involved with this

Hi Dan,

You should go talk to a good priest. Maybe you can get good advice on what to do. God bless you!

Thanks for the blessings they are wll recieved. I have inquired from someone here in Manchester NH about someone in the dioces who has a handle on this. I haven’t heard back yet but pray that there is a priest in our diocese that I can talk to.

Keep the faith and keep praying for me (us)

Dan

I just finished attending a Catholic Conference in Colorado Springs and there were many talks on this same topic. The bottom line is Reiki is not supported by the Catholic Church. It is a form or opening the doors to the Devil and his demons. Any time you welcome in a new life force that is not from God. If you need spiritual healing go to your priest and ask for a blessing, ask the Holy Spirit but do not go to any of these New Age Practices. This is the same as reading cards, witch craft, and sorcery. The Catholic Church published a preliminary study on New Age spirituality, called “Jesus Christ, The Bearer Of The Water Of Life” which might be worth reading. It is available on the Vatican’s website. We have the same problem in Colorado Springs as we have a Benedictine Monastery that offers this service and training as well. As Catholics for the faith we need to help educate more Catholics and get Reiki and other New Age practices removed from any relationship with the Catholic Church.

Some will tell you that this “healing energy” is from God. But it is not. And it is speading through the Catholic Church like a virus. 😦

It is, in a nutshell, NOT GOOD, to be avoided at all costs and to be reported to the Bishop, in the above case where the poster said they already did that, go up further, the Arch Bishop of the Diocese, I believe would be the next step up. Keep going up as far as you need to.

Sadly, the bishops in the U.S will do nothing. It does not matter how high you go. There are retreat centers who have been teaching this voodoo for years. The bishops turn a deaf ear and a blind eye. It is quite frustrating.

I don’t believe they are all like that though, as any good Bishop would not want that in his Diocese.

Do not be so sure. In July 2008, (last month), this year’s international forum for Catholic nuns was held at Villa Maria Retreat Center in Villa Maria, Pa with Metropolitan Basil celebrating Divine Liturgy in their chapel.

This place is well known as a hotbed for new age hinduism of all stripes including: reiki, mandalas, enneagram, labyrinth walking, eco-spirituality, simplicity circles etc.

Obviously the Catholic Metropolitan was okay with this!!!

Well, since it says in your profile that you are a member of the
Orthodox Church in America, I would imagine that they also have someone that you need to report that to further on up.

i appreciate your sympathy in this matter. i quite understand you position on this. but we must know that not all bishops agree with these disobedient and stiffy neck people within the church are doing. they just refuse to listen. i am sure in due time the Church will deal with it.

these are teachings from a pagan country and should have nothing to do with them.

these nuns would do much good by working on the conversion of the people instead of embracing what they teach.

I have not seen such things in Holy Orthodoxy. If I do I would report it to the bishop.

Hello All,
Going way back to May 2007, the post by The Good Life. I agree with this post. When I read all the negative posts about Reiki, I am kind of reminded of the doubters when Jesus was doing his ministry. Who are we to say that believing in Reiki makes you a heretic? Didn’t Jesus heal by the laying on of hands. And I am sure the people he healed believed in him and the things he was capable of doing and that helped in their healing. Basically, from all I have read about Reiki, that is exactly what it is. No one asks you to to believe in something or someone besides the Holy Spirit. I think everyone who jumps on the “heretic” bandwagon is just like the disbelievers in Jesus’ time. We need to keep our minds open and believe. It’s no different than believing that Mary visited the children in France or Juan Diego in Mexico.
