Reina-Valera Bible in Spanish

Besides omitting the Deuterocanonical Books, what else is wrong with the Spanish-language translation Reina-Valera, considered the preferred translation by many “Protestants”?

Is there anything wrong with a Catholic reading this translation?

No! Why would it be wrong? For starters, I have numerous Bibles and love to compare them. Now, if one wants to learn specific teachings of the Cathiolic Church,then first stick to a Catholic Bible and read the footnotes. And the reason why I say this is because as you know many of our separated brethren do not share our beliefs: The Real Presence of the Eucharist,prayers for the dead,etc. Some Protestants Bibles,for example, in the Gospel of John Ch. 6 teach Jesus was only speaking symbolically of the Eucharist and we do not teach that belief. However, if I do recall my ESV Bible footnotes does state that some Christians teach it is symbolic while other Christians teach a literal Eucharist,so the Bible is more ecumenical. Hope that helps!

For the most part, Protestant translations are deemed acceptable for Catholics to use. Some translations by heretical sects (e.g. Jehovah’s Witnesses) are unusable because they are so distorted. Otherwise, if it makes sense, there should be no problem.

The final caveat is because one of my friends had a translation that was so poorly done (by an otherwise reliable source) that he only managed to confuse people. The grammar was very poor and it used characters that were not otherwise present in the language.
