I ask people to discover themselves, who they are, to live at peace with themselves so as they can live at peace with all men, of all creeds, races and colour.
There is so much anger - anger born of ignorance.
The Catholic Church sees homosexuality as a disease to be cured. I see it as extraneous. But it sure opens a hothouse of debate!

A heterosexual gene hasn’t been determined either.
Any gene that contributes to the process of spermatozoa being deposited where they need to be in order to do their job, and to them being welcomed there, is a heterosexual gene. There’s a reason for it to be, whether in terms of a provident Creator who loves to create human beings or in plain old Darwinian terms.

Heterosexuality does not need to explain or justify itself. You and I and everyone else here all owe our existence to it. It’s the insistence on directing that physiology exclusively to off-label applications that needs explaining.

Not one of us goes without the need for prayer and spiritual guidance in accordance with Catholic teaching.
I am not advocating celebration of sin; I am putting forward the idea we are all sinners. In accepting our own sinful nature we can learn to forgive one another.
Yes, we are all sinners. That doesn’t make our favorite sins stop being sins, or make it intolerable to point out that they are.
What I say to those struggling is “Go in peace. Peace be with you.”
What Jesus said and says to those struggling is “Go in peace. Peace be with you, and do not commit this sin any more.”

The Catholic Church bases it’s Teaching on Scripture and Tradition. The Protestant Churches claim to base their teaching on Scripture alone.

In the Catholic Church a lot of cultural acceptance has been wound up in interpretation - slavery, votes for women, the natural environment.
The Church’s view on war has considerably changed from “just war” to questioning if that too can be challenged.
At the moment homosexuality is officially frowned upon. Homosexuals treated as carrying a disease which must be treated.
Yes, you’re right, it bases its teaching on Scripture and Tradition. However, I don’t believe homosexuality is part of the Tradition of the church, however, it may go back many years. I believe they take it mainly from Scripture. In the catechism it states homosexuality as a “disorder”, not a medical “disease”. However, all sin is a dis-ease of mankind.

They state it as a “disorder”, not a “disease”, however, all sin is a dis-ease of mankind. Also, the Catholic group Courage and the Catholic church’s teaching on the subject does not insist on the person with SSA to become “healed” or cured. They advocate the person to be celibate as well as all persons who are not married.

Why does the Catholic Church insist homosexuality is a disorder? What is the justification?

Why does the Catholic Churc insist those who are not married should be celibate?

Or does the Catholic Church not have to give a reason only a decision?

Because it is obviously goes against the natural way in which God created us to be in order to procreate. That’s why he made them male and female, obviously, to come together to not only love one another but to procreate.

On Celibacy: Because that is God’s law for mankind. I’m sure you have heard of the sin of fornication? I’ve also heard of how detrimental sexual intercourse can be emotionally for two people who are not married and how it can make people unsure of how they real feel about one another if the relationship is a sexual one before marriage.

Reason: The Catholic church upholds God’s laws which are put in place for us for our own good. Sin can destroy people emotionally, spiritually and physically. That is why God made laws to protect us from it, so we won’t destroy ourselves since He loves us.

ladybri77;6894988:
So those unable to procreate are not entitled to have sexual relations?
This puts procreation ahead of love, sharing and intimacy and marriage becomes a baby-making factory.

There are many happy partnerships wherein the sacrament of marriage has not been received from the Church.

So the voice of the Church is the Voice of God? This puts God subordinate to the Church.
No, the church is in agreement with God and His laws putting Him and His laws as Supreme over all and from which their own guidelines are made.

We are talking about sex before marriage, any kind of marriage…Protestant, Jewish, justice of the peace, etc.

Well, obviously, He made them male and female, with the obvious physical differences being made specifically to come together as one can obviously see…🤷

If someone is struggling with same sex attraction, I think they should look inward and ask themselves and the Lord, what is the source of these feelings? Homosexual feelings are actually a symptom of a deeper problem, i.e. symptoms of feelings of low self worth, anger, bitterness, unforgiveness, deep wounds occurring from an emotionally devastating event, sexual, physical, or emotional abuse, emotional neglect, absent father/mother, parents crossing boundaries, poor peer relationships in critical developmental periods, and the list goes on and on… and then ask God how they can receive healing in these areas through God’s healing power, counseling, joining a group like Courage for support, prayer, etc…and then see if the feelings die down somewhat.

Good post, good advice. 👍

The CCC says:

2359 Homosexual persons are called to chastity. By the virtues of self-mastery that teach them inner freedom, at times by the support of disinterested friendship, by prayer and sacramental grace, they can and should gradually and resolutely approach Christian perfection.

Groups like Courage can help them do this as myself, you and others have stated.😉

PFLAG-NO WAY!

Yes. 👍

I’m sure PFLAG helps some parents feel better, but it is never in anyone’s best interest to encourage immorality, true.

P-FLAG NO MORE!

ladybri77;6895481:
If someone is not struggling with SSA does it indicate legimate, valid, reasonable choice?
If someone finds it difficult being heterosexual should they also think it the result of internal injury?
That SSA is a valid option for a heterosexual struggling with sexual issues. At some stage most people struggle and question their heterosexual lifestyle.

The feelings you describe most people have encountered as part of life; they don’t become SSA as a result. And there are homosexuals who cannot trace their SSA to conflict.

Circular argument - from your viewpoint it is logical (and reasonable) to argue heterosexuality is the result of harm from a person of the same sex.
Is heterosexual lifestyle also open to “healing”?
Heterosexuality is the way God designed us to be, in order to procreate and experience the love He has for His church. Homosexuality came along as part of the Fall when sin entered the world which is the reason for all evil happening in the world. True, some with SSA said they never had anything bad happen to them, happy home, etc. The subconscious is a powerful tool, though and one can be affected in utero, by parents attitudes toward their children, etc. Something manifested in the subconscious that affected the child.

No SSA is not a choice where the feelings are concerned, but it is a choice to act on it. Hope this helps!

Peace,
In Him
