I personally like this prayer very much. It’s shorter than the Hail Mary, but I believe it gets the same message across

It goes something like this:
Rejoice, O Virgin Mother of God, Mary full of grace, the Lord is with thee. Blessed art thou among women and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, for thou hast borne the Savior of our souls.
I found this website that discusses the Eastern version of the Rosary, and I think this version trumps the Latin version of it, no offense intended. I really love how it glorifies the Holy Trinity and draws on it so much.

Here’s the site: stanne-byzcath.org/eastern%20rosary.htm

Has anyone here prayed this form of the Rosary? Roman Catholics or Eastern? I myself want to give it a try tonight. If so, do you prefer it over the Western Rosary?

Would anyone happen to have translations, too of some of these prayers in other Eastern languages, such as Greek, Aramaic, etc.?

Comments, discussion, etc. appreciated!

I just checked that out; there are some beautiful prayers to their Rosary, for sure! I’ve never prayed it like that (saying it the traditional way); it’ll be interesting to see what others have to say. 🙂

I found that version a couple months ago and printed it off but I never got around to saying it. It just seems easier for me to just say the Rosary the way I already know it. I’m not good with memorization, so it would take me a while to learn the Eastern Rosary. Besides, some Eastern Catholics get offended at the mention of the word “Rosary” because they’re trying to de-Latinize and go back to their roots as far as devotions go (i.e. Akathists, chotkis, icons, ect)

I usually pray the chotki more than the Rosary, just because I always need the cheat sheet for the latter (terrible memory for the order). Besides, I can pray the Jesus Prayer without the chotki, whereas it is harder to pray the Rosary without the beads. I pray the traditional Rosary as practiced in Western Orthodoxy. Little difference, just without the Luminous mysteries. I think I’ll try this one…I like it! Thanks! 👍

Prayers and petitions,
Alexius:cool:

I tend to be more of a Chotki type, myself.

What’s there is a serious latinization/byzantification/hybridization (depending on point of view).

St. Seraphim of Sarov said we had only two prayers given to us directly from heaven: the Lord’s Prayer and the Angelic Salutation (which in its Byzantine form is closer to the Scripture).

Just in case anyone is interested in the Latin style Rosary with the Prayers and Mysteries in Greek, you may find the entire text on the web site of St. Charbel Maronite Catholic Church in Limassol, Cyprus. Not only are they are selling a 2-CD set of the Rosary in Greek recorded by the St. Mary’s School Sisters, but at the bottom of the page (in the white box) you will see the “Holy Rosary E-Book”. There you can click to view or click to download. It is in Adobe format if you wish to enlarge the letters. Below is the link…

I do pray the rosary with the Byzantine Hail Mary and doxology, for the conversion of Russia, priestly vocations and return of the clergy to tradition; it has been allowed since the pontificate of Pius XI (1922-1939).

How does this fit into the question of the Bohorodice Devo prayer and the Byzantine Catholic rosary?
-priests still practice tradition
-Russia and conversion? I don’t understand what this means. The USSR is long gone. It is certain that the USSR murdered tens of millions of Christians. But the “God-less Soviet Union” is in fact gone.

conversion or Russia? I don’t get it.
One of the Fatima revelations supposedly calls for prayers for “The conversion of Russia to the Immaculate Heart of Mary”; the marian cult takes near heretical distortions given the private revelations of Fatima and the extremes devotees take it to.

The basic idea is that Russians do not have proper respect for Marian Devotions, and that such devotions would bring them into union, and/or convert them to the Roman Church.

It is an idea that totally lacks an understanding of the Russian Orthodox (and Russian Catholic) liturgies, praxis, and belief. Likewise, the Ukrainian, Carpetho-rusyn, and other Moscow Patriarchate descended orthodox and catholic churches share this very different, very rich Marian devotion tradition, one which rejects private revelations…
