Relations with transgenders

Hi, I am a devout catholic man who tries there best to please the lord. With all the recent media about transgenders, and knowing the churches view on the act of attempting to change genders, a question has come to my mind. Would it be considered wrong or “taboo” to be freinds with a transgender person? What if a transgender person wants to become Catholic?
 
Would it be wrong to be friends with a person who might be either mentally ill or a sinner? Why would you think that it might be?
 
I was thinking that because of the generally negative outlook on transgenderism, that it may be considered taboo to be friends with them. I know it’s not usually the catholic way to reject people, but I’m a curious man and I had to ask.

But yeah, it’s not sinful to be friends with anyone. Your question about the hypothetical conversion of a transgendered person is an interesting one. I honestly have no idea what the Church teaches (if she has a definitive teaching at all) about the sex individuals present themselves as. Presumably a post-op transgendered person wouldn’t be able to get married, but besides that I don’t think there’d be much of an issue.
 
it’s okay to be friends with them. Just don’t agree or support their views (that doesn’t mean outright criticising them which may do more harm than good at the wrong occasions). I’m friends with a few LGBT people but I don’t support their views.

I think He’d be happy to see someone reaching out to a transgender person and offering them His love.
 
We are called to love our neighbour no matter what they are, Transgender people can be catholic.

As far as I know, the Church has not issued a definitive statement. Has there been something in the past couple of weeks that I’ve missed (was down sick for 2 weeks).
