Hey guys,

My father does not go to mass every sunday, he claims he is too tired. I know that along time ago he felt unworthy of communion, not good enough, and this is the satantic influence called janenism…

i am devout and want him to return to the church, recently i was to go to a hockey game with him but decided not to go,

jesus said, he who loves father or mother more than me is not worthy of me, perhaps going to a hockey game to enjoy the joys of life rather than god, is not a good idea…

how do i treat him??

May I ask a question?

How old is your father?

Is there a reason for his being too tired to go to Mass?

Was the hockey game on Sunday and would you have had to miss Mass?

How are the two related?

As for how you treat him - I would say, with love and with tenderness…you want him to WANT to come Home and the best way to do so is to be the kind of Catholic that ATTRACTS rather than repels.

👍

There is a rule that is still in force: Honor thy father and thy mother. You are breaking one of the commandments. Allow you father to take care of his soul and you take care of your. You can pray for him if you want but nagging isn’t going to fix your problem. You have to change your attitude. You can be as devout as you want and your father isn’t preventing you from doing that.

You treat him with respect, he is your father and from the sounds of it still living at home and dependent on him. You are not going to influence him to go to Church by being a brat in not going to the hockey game. All you can do is be respectful and pray for him.

Praying to the Holy Spirit to give your father guidance & direction back to the Church.

Treat your father with respect and stop worrying about going to a hockey game with him. Your patience and love may be what he needs to return to the Church. Staying away from him or even doing such a thing as “shunning” him will help nothing. He is your father. Treat him like one.

Remember, his journey is ongoing and not of your control. Pray for him, be kind and understanding and honor him. Let God to the rest.
