I found this at a local thrift store. Looks like someone attached the metal piece to the Cross. There are no insignias of any kind. Could there be one on the back of the piece containing the cloth? How else can I identify it? Is it even a relic? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks.

Lance

Or how I can get it apart to see if there’s any kind of identification behind the reliquary?

I think I’ve solved your mystery. It’s identical to ones being sold at this store:

discountcatholicstore.com/relics.htm#relic%20crosses

It’s described as a Comfort Cross with Relic touched to the Tomb of Jesus, with the cross made from olive wood from Bethlehem.

I searched Google Images for ‘relic in wooden cross’, it came up straight away. 🙂

I wouldn’t take it apart. Just enjoy using it. It’s one of those “fits in your hand” crosses.

You could ask at the shrine down the road from me in Maria Stein Ohio. They have a web site and the largest relic chapel in the country. They would know the answer to your relic questions I am sure.
