My friends and I visited the grave of Julia Greeley last week. There is a group that is – what’s the correct word? – propogating her cause for sainthood, but she is not officially venerable, blessed, or saint… YET
I was finishing up the Rosary on the morning of June 7, and just feeling so lonely with my son at his dad’s house… divorce is just plain evil. And I’ve praying and fasting for my ex-husband’s conversion for soooooooo long now
Suddenly, I thought of “Miss Julia” and just started pouring out my heart to her and asking her intercession. There was such a sense of comfort in that moment. I mentioned it to “the girls” at choir rehearsal that evening:
“Have you ever heard of Julia Greeley? I was thinking of visiting her grave today.”
“Yes, we have! Did you know today is the anniversary of her death?”
I told them what had happened at the end of my Rosary, and then we all sat there amazed at the “coincidence”.
I had already arranged to visit her grave the following day with my son’s godparents – his godfather is part of the group spreading the word about her holiness of life. When we went to visit her grave, it was like meeting an old friend. I took two of the holy cards my son’s godfather had given me and touched them to her grave, and I left a tiny paper scroll with a prayer intention in the ground next to her headstone. Incidentally, there were flowers and little tokens all around her grave. She is clearly remembered and venerated by a number of people in the area.
If it be God’s will, may she be raised to the honor of Saint quickly.
Just wanted to share another brush with the Communion of Saints
Here is a picture of Julia Greeley holding a precious little one, and a picture of her headstone:
