Blessed be God and in His Angels and in His Saints.

What is the difference between a lay person selling a Relic of St. Philomena?

ebay.ca/sch/i.html?_nkw=St.+Philomena&_sacat=13770&_odkw=&_osacat=13770

And the Relic on the St. Philomena website?

 🤷
Thank you for pointing this out, goforgoal. There is no real difference there because it is all just selling of relics, even if they say on their websites “the cost is for the reliquary, not the relic” it is not really taken that way.

God bless!

There is no difference, goforgoal. Selling of relics especially by gift shops is cheap and tacky and I wouldn’t want those anyway. To be truthful, third class relic cards and medals have no special meaning to me because it’s doubtful that they were even touched to the original relics. The modern ones are designed so cheap and tacky. I prefer the old paper ones with the cloth fastened by a string or glued on. Some orders and Postulators still assemble relics with class and dignity, however these souvenirs and mementos in gift shops are sickening.aquinasandmore.com/catholic-gifts/anthony-relic-prayer-card/sku/55418

The St. Philomena website is the authentic source of the relics of St. Philomena since it is run by her Sanctuary in Italy where she is buried. The costs really are for the reliquary. Many postulators ask for offerings to defray the cost of the materials housing the relic.I have seen some postulators state that the suggested donation corresponds with the exact retail price of thecas or medals.

For example a 15 Euro Reliquary, made in Italy would be close to $20 in our money. So if a postulator said they were offering a first class relic or second class relic of Saint/Blessed…, they may say $20 donation. If the relic is being shipped, postage may also be added to this so you may be asked to send $25 for a relic. Shipping costs may be more if it comes directly from Italy or France so you could be asked for more. Sometimes, only the postage may be asked for the relics expecially for 2nd and 3rd class relics. If all relics were given free, the postulators would be bankrupt. Canonization causes are expensive.

Ebay people are not postulators and have no right to distribute relics and hence this as selling and a violation of Canon Law. Ebay is a secular market and hence this is not the place for relics to be distributed. Many sellers may not be Catholic or some may have stolen the relics and now try to make fast cash off the relics. This is not the same as a postulator because they did not buy the reliquaries from some random shop in Rome and cut up the clothing or bones to put in the reliquary or spend on the manufacturing of the medal at the medal making factory to house the garment of some random saint/blessed nor did they issue an authentic document. Ebay is a place to make money and relics are sold there for hundreds of dollars.

Thank you and God bless you for your feedback on this.

Anyways, I remember CAF Member **thistle **clearly stated

*Canon Law:

Can. 1190 §1 It is absolutely wrong to sell sacred relics. *

vatican.va/archive/ENG1104/_P4D.HTM

However, I am just wondering if it is okay to send the Postulator, Vice Postulator, Convents or the people “making” these devotional items a donation to defray the cost of shipping and handling or just to simply donate to their Monastery, Parish, etc.? or would it be okay to send a donation to the cause or promote the cause of Sainthood such Sr. Marie de Mandat-Grancey, D.C.?

goforgoal,

Morality states that an action can be looked on the IMMEDIATE purpose.
and so I think its fine.

Hey everyone. I have been blessed to receive a second class relic of the Venerable Servant of God Rose Hawthorne. You can obtain one also by contacting the Rose Hawthorne Guild at the Dominican Sisters of Hawthorne. I’ve been made aware that direct contact information to the orders and postulators should not be posted here, therefore you’ll have to do a google search for yourself. It’s not hard to find. God bless you everyone and pray for her eventual beatification.

Also, forgive me for my constant posts as of recently, but I’ve been away from CAF for a while now and it feels good to get back into the community of believers. For all of us who love finding out more about the Servants of God who are on their way or considered to be raised to the Honors of our Altars, I have come upon a fantastic website. Some of you may know of it already. This is the link:

newsaints.faithweb.com/index.htm

This website is great for seeing all of the Causes in progress going back until the 1940’s. I personally have found out a great deal of useful information from this website, and it even has links to the home pages of the orders or specific cause websites for the respective candidate for Sainthood. This is really a great website. I hope this information benefits all of you, I know I already have searched through the entire database, it can be very easy to lose track of time when you’re searching through all of the pages! I know all of you will love it. As always this information is for the greater Glory of God through His One True Church and for the glorification of His faithful Sons and Daughters who have passed from this life and may now intercede for us in Heaven.

All you holy saints, pray for us! Amen

Last Monday, I received a letter, information, and a few Prayer cards of a wonderful woman name Ven. Henriette Delille although I didn’t receive a relic I am truly blessed and thankful to God and all of His Holy men and women.

Prayer for the Beatification of Henriette Delille

O good and gracious God,
You called Henriette Delille to
give herself in service and in
love to the orphan and the aged,
to the forgotten and the despised.

Grant that inspired by her
life, we might be renewed in
heart and in mind. If it be Your
will may she one day be raised
in prayers, may we live in
harmony and peace, through
Jesus Christ, Our Lord, Amen.

I really enjoy the website too SonOfCarmel. However, like I stated on Page. 29, Post # 425 be careful some of the websites that are provided as they may cause harm to your computer.

One can always copy and paste the names of the candidate and see if they can find more information for the candidate for Sainthood.

Another thing, I mentioned two other causes that I didn’t see on their website:

Servant of God, Rose Prince and Julia Greeley which CAF Member Gertabelle kindly mentioned.

You or anyone can view Servant of God, Rose Prince and Julia Greeley on Page.19, Post #276 and #277.

Thank you and God bless you forall your posts SonOfCarmel.
I thought I would share this wonderful website here

The Hagiography Circle:

newsaints.faithweb.com/

I always click on the Databases (left hand side) and than the Years (left hand side)
  • Please do take note that some of the links are obsolete or they may cause harm (virus) to your computer so please be very careful and cautious of what link you click on.
I have addressed this “problem” to The Hagiography Circle already.

God bless,

Please excuse me I have to make this in two seperate posts

Dearest and loving CAF Members, I have Prayerfully considered closing down this particular thread and as you may see by browsing through some of these threads I have Prayerfully considered closing it down in the past.

However, I don’t think I will.

Why?
  1. I love sharing Prayers and Prayers are meant to be shared.
  2. A Person may not know who a particular Saint is or a candidate for Sainthood is and this may touch a person deeply as all of the Prayer cards and Relics did for me.
  3. A Person may be in need of Prayers and Devotional items to share with their family members, to share in their School Chapel, or whatever the Holy Spirit decides for them to do.
Who am I to receive a blessed item and not share it with others? 🤷

I think people know and realize that I no longer share the contact information with them on the public forums, email, or any social networking website such as Facebook or Twitter.

I will share what I have via PM and only PM. So, if you happen to find any candidate for Sainthood or Saint I may have I will joyfully share the contact information with you.

However, I’m not the only one who knows where to look there are many many CAF Members who will be happy to assist you.

“Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you.” ~ Matthew 7:7

Continued…Dearest CAF Members, March. 5th, 2013, Tuesday was truly a blessing I received two different Prayer cards, 3 Novena Prayer cards, and 3 laminated Relics having touched the bones of Blessed Marie- Anne Blondin.

**Prayer to Blessed Marie-Anne Blondin

Lord, you gave to
Blessed Marie-Anne Blondin
a heart impassioned for her glory
and You called her to serve with tenderness
the young, the poor, and the sick.

You gave her hope
in the most difficult moments in her life
and You led her to deep serenity.

Be praised, Lord,
for your humble servant.
Blessed Marie-Anne Blondin.

Through her intercession
grant us favor
that we ask of You with confidence. Amen.**

**Prayer of the Elderly

Blessed Marie-Anne Blondin
you, like us, lived
through the stages of a long life,
and so we come to you with confidence.

Through the events
that continue to mark our lives,
help our faith grow even stronger
and our love more unselfish.
In seeing us, may others find peace
and renew their courage.

You, who lived in absolute trust
of the heavenly Father,
free us from fear.
Help us, even now,
experience the joy
promised to people of good will. Amen.**

recently, I received a 1st class relic pin of Blessed Maria Teresa of St. Joseph, I brought it to Church and then showed it to the parish office because im planning to make it available for public veneration. But then a catechist said that it should be on a theca container so that it could be use for veneration. Is that so?

Hi, the relic of someone beatified may not to put up for public veneration without permission from the bishop and parish priest unless that place has a particular devotion to that saint 🙂 Although having it in a theca is the norm, I think that it would be permissible to publicly venerate it, since it is sealed and has a document of authenticity, as long as you have permission from the diocese to do so 😃 someone please correct me if I’m wrong.

i do agree that relics placed for public veneration must be in a container as per rules. Moreover the ex capillis relic medal that you have might have come with a authenticity papers, which itself prove the genuine nature of relic. You can very well place it in a reliquary and expose it with a written permission of concerned authority as this is in regards to a blessed.

May it be a relic in theca, relic card or prayer cards, they bring to us the blessings of god along with them.please pray for the canonization of all those candidates whose relics you have.

United in jesus through mary,

Prayer to Obtain a Favor through the Intercession of Servant of God Fr. Capodanno:

May God who has offered healing and strength through the hands of His only Son, Our Lord, and through Christ’s many servants grant me the favor of His healing and through the intercession of His servant, Fr. Vincent Capodanno, priest, missionary, and chaplain, who always sought to heal and comfort the wounded and dying on the field of battle. May I be granted this request on my own field of battle I pray in the name of the Father, and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Prayer to Obtain a Favor Though the Intercession of Servant of God Fr. Capodanno:

Father in heaven, you give us every blessing and shower us with your grace through our savior Jesus Christ, and the working of the Holy Spirit. If it be according to your will, glorify your servant Vincent Capodanno by granting the favor I now request through his prayerful intercession: (Mention your request.) I make this prayer confidently through Jesus Christ, our Lord. Amen.

Prayer for the Canonization of the Servant of God Father Vincent Capodanno
Heavenly Father, source of all that is holy, in every age you raise up men and women who live lives of heroic love and service. You have blessed your Church through the life of Vincent Capodanno, Vietnam War Navy chaplain, who had the “courage of a lion, and the faith of a martyr.” He was killed in action offering medical assistance to the wounded and administering last rites to the dying on the battlefield. Through his prayer, his courage, his faith, and his pastoral care he is an example of laying down one’s life for one’s friends: Jesus told us that there is no greater love than this. If it be your will, may he be proclaimed a saint! We ask this through Jesus Christ, Our Lord. Amen.

Prayer for the Canonization of Mary Virginia Merrick
Lord God, in your special love for children, you chose to raise up Mary Virginia Merrick to be the servant of the poor children. In laboring to serve the young and those without hope because of the crushing weight of poverty, she proclaimed the love of your Son. She made her life’s work a demonstration that “nothing is ever too much to do for a child.”

Grant that her example of selfless charity and courageous virtue in the face of her own suffering will inspire us to be as generous in the service of others. We humbly ask that your servant Mary Virginia Merrick be numbered among the Church’s canonized saints for the edification of your holy people, in accord with your most holy will. Through her intercession, please hear and answer my request (state intention).

Through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Published with ecclesiastical approval,
Archdiocese of Washington, D.C.

“How blessed we are that the cause for beatification of a woman from this archdiocese has approval to move forward. Mary Virginia Merrick is a true example of how one person can overcome obstacles to live out Christ’s love for others and transform lives.”
