My family is currently going through a great struggle.

In an effort to help, a friend of mine gave me a 1st class Relic of St. Padre Pio.

I have never prayed with a relic before. What do I do with it?

Some friends have recommended that I wear it. How do I do that?

So far, I have been praying a St Pio prayer card while holding the relic.

Any other ideas?

thanks

First, this Relic is there as a Power-booster to your Prayers.
So, anything you do with it is Perfect.
You may hold it, as you have done . . . Look at it while you Pray . . . the Options are Limitless.

If it was me, I would set up a Shrine in my home. The normal Shrine is 1 foot by 2 feet (or, even 1 by 1). Just find (or make) some space on a table, or desk, or shelf (anywhere you want it to be). In the middle you set up a “Holder” for your Relic (maybe cover it with Silk or Felt). Place the Relic on the Holder. Get some other 'Holy" things, like a Padre Pio prayer card, a Rosary, if you have one, a larger picture of Padre Pio if you like. Anyway, you just place things near the Relic that will make you Happy when you see them there.

At that point, you can sit by the Shrine . . . or,
Look at it when you Pray (even from a long way away) … or,
Remember the Shrine as you are Praying.

Part of your Prayer would be to ask Saint Padre Pio to intercede with God for you, so that your Prayer gets to the Altar in Heaven.

The more you believe in the Power that the Relic has, the more Power that Relic has to assist you.
As unusual as that Sounds, in reality, this is how many people find out the Power of Praying with a Relic.

And, "Some friends have recommended that I wear it. How do I do that?"
I have no idea what shape (or form) the Relic is.
But, if you could wrap it around your neck, that’s a way.
If you could encapsulate it in a plastic holder, then you can attach a chain to it.

I would bring the relic to your parish priest and see what he says. There is a lot of debate about lay people having a first class relic, and some rules apply.

What are some of the rules? I have a friend whose mother had a couple relics and he offered them to me. I haven’t had a chance to pick them up yet. I hadn’t heard of any rules other than that you have to treat them respectfully.

This is the link to the canon law of veneration for saints and relics from the vatican webpage. I am unsure what a relic of significant importance entails, as stated in the canon law. in my mind it would include a first class relic. So I personally would ask a priest, if I had one.

Thanks. That’s interesting. I haven’t seen exactly what his are yet, but I’ll talk to my priest about it. I know relics do big business on Ebay. I’ve even considered buying a few.

Can you please elaborate on this? I have a pectoral cross reliquary that is full of first class relics and a piece of the Agnus Dei. It was given to a priest friend of mine in a box full of relics from an old convent of German nuns that was shutting down, who then passed it on to me. I was told to keep it some place special and to venerate the saints that are in it. The Agnus Dei is especially powerful in warding off storms, and I have found that during tornado warnings and hail warnings, if I take it and hold onto it praying for the storms to pass over us, the storms don’t hit us. I remember going outside one morning finding the cars on the street around me pelted with hail damage, while my car didn’t even have a dent on it. I remember one particularly scary moment when under a tornado warning after one had already touched down about 20 kms from my apartment, and it was super windy and the sky was black, I grabbed onto it and prayed for the storm to pass over. 45 seconds later the winds died and the sun came out.

I don’t wear mine out of fear of losing it, but I did take it with me to pray outside the abortion clinic and kept it in my inside breast pocket.

I know many people who own first class relics.
After the crazy iconoclasm of the 1960’s many relics where thrown away but some were saved by lay people who cared for them.

What is the relic? A first class relic is a body part. How do you know its authentic?
