Can we ask to God if we can take on the suffering of a loved one (i.e.fatigue,colds,pain) to give them relief ?If so,how would one go about it?St Padre Pio comes to mind when I think of this.
Well stated. There is no harm in praying and asking, but leave it up to God’s will, which is most loving and provident:
“… but if it is not pleasing to you, O Lord, to let me take on the suffering of my loved one, at least hear my prayer and strengthen us in our distress.”
In a small way, you may accomplish what you want, taking on the other person’s suffering, simply by keeping company, spending time with him or her. You feel pains of sympathy, and the other person may feel better knowing that you care.
