Actually Id include SETI. Look at their mision statement.

The Mission of the SETI Institute is to explore, understand and explain the** origin, nature and prevalence of life in the universe**.
We believe we are conducting the most profound search in human history - to **know our beginnings and our place **among the stars.

Its always about finding the orgin. If you watch enough space shows it always gets tagged in there, generally after they speak about the wonders, research and mans desire to explore all justify the cost.

Its the orgin they are really looking for like they say. Essentially to prove Gods wrong. 🤷

Another planet? Perhaps that’s what the “Fall” was all about, and it might explain why we can’t find the Garden of Eden on earth. Sounds like as viable a theory as any thing else I’ve heard.🙂

Wow. So apparently Adam and Eve arrived here in spirit form, and then gradually “materialized” themselves here on earth.

Where do you get these quotes? Is there a book I can buy on Amazon?

Not really. They came here with resurrected, glorified bodies with spirit in their veins instead of blood. They ate “grosser” foods until their bodies devolved enough to procreate flesh-and-blood offspring.

They are in the Journal of Discourses, a multi-volume set of speeches and writings of the early Mormon leaders. It is full of amazing stuff. A smaller and less expensive, but no less amazing book is “Teachings of the Prophet Joseph Smith”, which I believe is available from Amazon.

The BoM does not (AFAICS) absolutely rule out the possibility that Lehi & Co., & the Jaredites before them, travelled by airships. That would certainly explain the cumoms and cureloms. For all we know, the entire BoM could have taken place on another planet.​

My problem with God living on another planet (in the physical, rather than spiritual, sense) is that it seems to deny that basic idea found in all mystics, that God is nearer to yourself than your jugular vein. Then again, the fact that “as God is, man can become”, may be the Mormon version of mysticism.
 
If God only told Moses then how does Neal know??

The difference is that these are not LDS doctrine and never have been; whereas Purgatory and Limbo have been Catholic doctrine and still are! 🙂

Where did you hear that these were places in outer space? Or anywhere in the physical universe? I agree that that is a very strange teaching.

I see your point, but a great many people believe in the possibility of life on other planets without following either humanism or the UFO nonsense. I myself had a SETI@home screensaver for a couple years.

About the emphasis on origins in scientific research, I see that as a tacit admission that they themselves find the answers they have now seriously lacking. I recently heard that they finally have a theory of the big bang where the laws of physics aren’t reduced to nonsense as you approach the begining. It was caused by the collision of two existing universes! :doh2: Guess they’re back at square one.
 
I would venture the suggestion such ideas come from reading (or more recently, watching) science fiction. The idea that men were on the moon or other planets (or other intelligent beings) was written about by many people, ranging from Voltaire to Edgar Allan Poe. Science fiction really took off in the 20th century, and really it is often sophisticated myth telling using ideas and motifs from science.
