Religions in the USA By County

It is surprised me at first. Look at all the Catholic counties! Then I realized that just because a county’s predominant religion is Catholic, doesn’t meant that Catholics outnumber Protestants in that county.

It means Catholics are the largest religious denomination in that county. Such a county could theoretically be 10% Catholic, 9% Mormon, 9% Baptist, 9% Presbyterian, 9% Jewish, 9% Episcopalian, 9% Muslim, 9% Christian Science, 9% Scientologist, 9% Methodist, 9% Seventh Day Adventist.

With those numbers, depending on how loose you want to be with your terms, Protestants make up 36-72% of the county vs 10% Catholics, but the county will still be blue.

From the map, it appears to be Loving County, Texas.

National Geographic article

Sparsely populated, with ~70 residents. Perhaps there are no churches, and therefore nobody practices their religion in the formal sense. More likely, they count by the size of congregations.
