“Peer review” is the same method used by the Church. The way academia combats confirmation bias is the peer-review process.
Peer review is a wonderful way to avoid error and to cultivate humility.
Of course, whether in faith or in academia, one can ask the question - - what or who constitutes a “peer”. In other words, simply saying that something is reviewed by “peers” does not, in itself, guarantee that confirmation bias (or prideful thinking) is totally removed.
