Religious Communities in the Holy Land

Hello Everyone,

I am trying to discern a vocation as a woman, but am having great difficulty in location contacts for religious communites that are located in the Holy Land. I have an academic and work backgroudn with issues relevant to that region, and would like to know more about the communities that exist there. I have heard that Catholic organizations manage orphanages, schools, and provide relief services for people living in the Occupied Terrotories, but have only found the name of one community there to contact. Does any one on this list know of contacts in that region?

Here’s a link to the Franciscans who are the custos of the Holy Land; why not contact them and ask the orders and contact information for sisters who are in their area.

There is one order of Arab nuns called the Rosary Sisters whose mother convent is in Jenin in the Holy Land. They have schools all over the Middle East, hospitals and orphanages. They are always in need of help.

The best way to reach them, and by the way, the best way to reach any of the Catholic organizations and missions in the Holy Land is through the Catholic Near East Welfare Association(CNEWA). I have been sponsoring a Catholic girl in the Holy Land through CNEWA for the last seven years. I also just started sponsoring another girl in a Catholic Youth Program that is operated under CNEWA.

CNEWA is a papal agency that provides humanitarian and pastoral support to Christians in the Middle East and parts of Asia and Russia. If any orgaization has a grip on all the Catholic and other Christian organizations/orders/communities in the Holy Land, it’s CNEWA.

Thank you for this information. I will contact them too. I was just looking at their magazine, thinking that it occasionally might list names of communities in articles, but when I called they were not open (even though it was business hours; maybe they are short staffed).

Thanks Deacon! I did check there a few months ago, and it was from where I obtained most of my initial leads. They did not have much information about orders that work in conlfict zones where I feel called. And there wer a few orders that I contacted, whom I have heard had branches in the Occupied Territories, such as Franciscans and Dominicans, but since their house did not do such work, they were not able to offer any information.

I am currently reading the writings of Catherine of Sienna and I feel so inspired by her discussions on the improtance of performing acts of charity for others, as service to God. I wish I discovered her Dialogues years earlier, but I suppsoe there is a reason for everything.
 
Sorry you are finding a road block to your calling. Sometimes the devil does that. Don’t give up. Possibly, you may be able to contact the military chaplain corps in those areas. Also, you could write to the government information offices in those areas. As a last resort, you could try calling or writting the Vatican.
