Forgive me if this has already been covered (I searched the forums and did not find this addressed directly), but I am wondering about the Religious Congregation of Mary, Immaculate Queen (CMRI).

Several familiess from my home town moved to Idaho in the late 1960s to join a group opposed to Vatican II changes in the church. That group, I believe, is CMRI, which I recently discovered has its seminary in Omaha.

That they are no in union with Rome is pretty self-evident from their website: cmri.org/cmri.htm.

What, if any, is their relationship with SSPX? Where do they fit in the spectrum of “traditional Catholic” groups not in union with Rome?

Any feedback would be appreciated.

The SSPX, as a group, acknowledges that Benedict XVI is the true Pope.

The CMRI would probably not “like” the SSPX, because the CMRI tends to not acknowledge the current Pope.
 
In addition I believe the CMRI (along with a few Independant Traditional chapels) celebrate Mass according to the 1958 liturgical books as opposed to the 1962 books used by the SSPX or the (pre)1955 liturgical books used by other sedevacantists.

I am not sure but I think the orgins of the CMRI are totally different from the SSPX and they have not had any relation.
 
How about the validity of their orders? Their website claims validity (as you would expect) but their claims seem pretty suspect to me.

Their orders are probably valid. They come from the Thuc line of bishops. Thuc was excommunicated for an unauthorized episcopal consecration, reinstated and then, after he did it again, excommunicated again.
