Why is there a decline in our religion in the world (mostly western countries)? What happened to the label that we were the mos devout religion in Europe and else where. Maybe someone from these countries could tell me. For example, France was known as a strong catholic country, today its one of the weakest, and Islam is growing

It is called the final (or great) apostasy that comes just before the end, just before Jesus returns. Remember Jesus asked, “When the Son of Man returns will He find any faith?”

[Apostasy generally means someone of faith (baptized and practicing) who then falls away from his or her faith.]

From the Catechism of the Catholic Church:
paragraph 675: ** Before Christ’s second coming **the Church must pass through a final trial that will shake the faith of many believers. The persecution that accompanies her pilgrimage on earth will unveil the “mystery of iniquity” in the form of a religious deception offering men an apparent solution to their problems at the price of **apostasy **from the truth. The supreme religious deception is that of the Antichrist, a pseudo-messianism by which man glorifies himself in place of God and of his Messiah come in the flesh.

Many believe we are in the end times and see this loss of faith of believers as the fulfillment of paragraph 675. Visit the Back Fence End Times Speculation XIII forum for end times discussions from a Catholic perspective, if you want to read more about it.

So those who stay faithful in this time is likely to past the test of time? And those are devout are the true followers of Christ?

But shouldn’t we proclaim the Gospel of the Lord, its very hard with most modern governments and stuff seen on tv, dont you agree?🙂

Poor catachesis, the 60s and 70s, moral relativism. But, I must say, this is changing, whenever you feel discouraged by this seeming lack of faith and declining religiosity, just remind yourself of the ~2 million young people that just descended on Madrid from all over the world to spend a weekend with an 84 year old man, because of Jesus Christ and the work of the Holy Spirit. Does that sound like a dead or dying faith to you? No, on the contrary, I think there is a resurgence of faith coming from this generation, my generation, that has learned from the mistakes of our parents and is fed up with the empty promises of materialism and relativism.

Personally, I find this very encouraging. There is a lot of work to do to mend the wounds and mistakes of the past, but I believe we are poised to take back our faith and enter this period of new evangelization.

Esta es, la juventud del Papa!

Let us consider that prior to the reforms of the Second Vatican Council, there were very few people coming to the celebration of the Mass in contrast to Mass attendance nowadays. We can see this clearly in the need of EMHCs to help Mass celebrants to distribute Holy Communion.
The observation of the OP, however, is worth pondering about. It sounds like a herald calling for more serious practice of the faith for some of us. This some could also include me.

I would think there are a number of factors.

One is the division of the church. When you’ve got thousands of different denominations who can’t agree on what they believe, you just wind up with a smorgasboard faith - pick which one feels the best. If the Churches can’t agree on sacraments eg. Marriage, Baptism etc, then why should the secular public take any notice.

Another is the doctrine of Church-State division. All this achieves is to give the real secular power into the hands of the politicians, who then decide policy based on public opinion, and not moral imperatives. I also believe this is one reason God is allowing Islam to revive, as in Islam there is no division of religion and state. I think He’s going to overturn the doctrine of Church-State division by using Islam.

Two world wars, with millions of dead, including a lot of potential leaders, created a lot of disillusionment with God as a result. If God cared so much, where was He? My father, who was a mongrel to me, but who also lost his faith, even made this comment once during a “discussion”, stating that if anyone knew what was happening in Nazi Germany, God did. But He did nothing, or seemed to.

The vast increase in wealth and comfortable living, particularly in the West, due mainly to the exponential increase in the use of machinery (which, when it is all said and done, is th real reason for the material advantages we’ve got now).

The pervading influence of the media. and its own message. The prophets now are the journalists and talking heads on the television.Th

A policy of allowing all faiths, provided they don’t conflict with each other. In other words, you can believe what you want, provided you don’t cause trouble. All paths lead to God as an official line, as to insist there is one truth is politically incorrect.

The Church has never made any real attempt to reconcile the Creationism / Evolution dispute. I suspect a lot of people find it a bit hard to believe that a creature that started as a bunch of chemicals has any lasting import.

The fallout from the now defunct Soviet Union. While the USSR no longer exists, some of its atheist doctrines are still alive and well.

Humanist education, which means a lot of our current leaders have humanist ideals.

There’s a number of reasons.

“The End Times” is an anti-religion authors idea of the 1800’s, not supported by Catholics or The Church. It’s a play on twisted bible verses by an author. The World has always had troubled times; it’s a normal thing. The Church is Bigger and more Universal than Ever. It wasn’t WW II or disolusionment with God; It is Secular Money Driven Media that avoids the awesome Catholic Church; Seculalist Media and Big Sales Money are the problem, discussed in another Thread.

So basically we have 2 theories, 1 that its secularism and 2 that its the 2nd coming of Christ?

Christ did say His coming is close when He ascended into heaven, so actually we cant say thats the theory for only God know when it is

Hey I have the same sentiments as you. I do not understand why anyone, especially ex-Catholics, decide to go to Islam.

In Indonesia, it is a Islamic country. Therefore it is run with a lot of Islam influence. I cannot say much about that but a lot of things I do not agree, now that I have known and my eyes are opened to the One Truth.

To me, they said Islam is true but how can that be when GOD called me to Him, and His ONLY WAY, when I was not a believer before??

Well, I’m just saying this is very perplexing… 🤷

Though it is quite sad that Europe, once strongly associated with Christianity, is now falling… (as more and more turn to Islam). Having heard France now an Islamic country officially. And I had always wanted to go live there someday… ):

France and Europe are not “Islamic”, they are officially Secular, even anti-God. The RC Church is the only still strong Christian Practise, which Pope Benedict is encouraging activelly. Also EWTN every Media, German and French, expanding to Each Language. There is a Need for ‘spirituality’; The Church is the Best to Answer, as well as Islam.

Because God gives to humanty ONLY two choices:o
  1. Either God is in charge or
  2. Santan and ourselves are in charge
God promises a Cross in this life and Eternal GLORY in the next

Santan Promised "Glory [custome made to your own specifications and choicesNOW!] and the eternity is such small print as to not be readable:eek:

God offers all sufficient grace BUT humanity HAS to; MUST cooperate and acceot it.

God wins in the end… It is ALWAYS darkest before the SON-rise,👍

Ummmm, perhaps a decline in organized religions, but certainly not in private spirituality. New Age in all its forms is still increasing. More and more people are describing themselves as spiritual but not religious. You may not approve of this, but it is happening.🤷

They are one and the same. The 2nd coming is prefaced with a deluge of secularism, an apostasy. There is great persecution that flows into times of great apostasy before Our Lord returns. We have seen great persecution and now are witnessing great apostasy.
But we are not to despair; Jesus knew the apostasy would be depressing and that is why He said 'when you see all these things look up for your redemption is near!" So look up with hope because we are on the verge of great things!

God bless you.

The end times is biblical and is covered in the Catechism of the Catholic Church. Daniel references “the time of the end”, for example.

The Catechism of the Catholic Church teaches us:
670 Since the Ascension God’s plan has entered into its fulfillment. We are already at “the last hour”. “Already the final age of the world is with us, and the renewal of the world is irrevocably under way; it is even now anticipated in a certain real way, for the Church on earth is endowed already with a sanctity that is real but imperfect.” Christ’s kingdom already manifests its presence through the miraculous signs that attend its proclamation by the Church.

. . .until all things are subjected to him

671 Though already present in his Church, Christ’s reign is nevertheless yet to be fulfilled “with power and great glory” by the King’s return to earth. This reign is still under attack by the evil powers, even though they have been defeated definitively by Christ’s Passover. Until everything is subject to him, “until there be realized new heavens and a new earth in which justice dwells, the pilgrim Church, in her sacraments and institutions, which belong to this present age, carries the mark of this world which will pass, and she herself takes her place among the creatures which groan and travail yet and await the revelation of the sons of God.” That is why Christians pray, above all in the Eucharist, to hasten Christ’s return by saying to him: Maranatha! “Our Lord, come!”

672 Before his Ascension Christ affirmed that the hour had not yet come for the glorious establishment of the messianic kingdom awaited by Israel which, according to the prophets, was to bring all men the definitive order of justice, love and peace. According to the Lord, the present time is the time of the Spirit and of witness, but also a time still marked by “distress” and the trial of evil which does not spare the Church and ushers in the struggles of the last days. It is a time of waiting and watching.

The glorious advent of Christ, the hope of Israel

673 Since the Ascension Christ’s coming in glory has been imminent, even though “it is not for you to know times or seasons which the Father has fixed by his own authority.”. This eschatological coming could be accomplished at any moment, even if both it and the final trial that will precede it are “delayed”.

674 The glorious Messiah’s coming is suspended at every moment of history until his recognition by “all Israel”, for “a hardening has come upon part of Israel” in their “unbelief” toward Jesus. St. Peter says to the Jews of Jerusalem after Pentecost: “Repent therefore, and turn again, that your sins may be blotted out, that times of refreshing may come from the presence of the Lord, and that he may send the Christ appointed for you, Jesus, whom heaven must receive until the time for establishing all that God spoke by the mouth of his holy prophets from of old.” St. Paul echoes him: “For if their rejection means the reconciliation of the world, what will their acceptance mean but life from the dead?” The “full inclusion” of the Jews in the Messiah’s salvation, in the wake of “the full number of the Gentiles”, will enable the People of God to achieve “the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ”, in which “God may be all in all”.
**
The Church’s ultimate trial**

675 Before Christ’s second coming the Church must pass through a final trial that will shake the faith of many believers. The persecution that accompanies her pilgrimage on earth will unveil the “mystery of iniquity” in the form of a religious deception offering men an apparent solution to their problems at the price of apostasy from the truth. The supreme religious deception is that of the Antichrist, a pseudo-messianism by which man glorifies himself in place of God and of his Messiah come in the flesh.

676 The Antichrist’s deception already begins to take shape in the world every time the claim is made to realize within history that messianic hope which can only be realized beyond history through the eschatological judgment. The Church has rejected even modified forms of this falsification of the kingdom to come under the name of millenarianism, especially the “intrinsically perverse” political form of a secular messianism.

677** The Church will enter the glory of the kingdom only through this final Passover, when she will follow her Lord in his death and Resurrection. **The kingdom will be fulfilled, then, not by a historic triumph of the Church through a progressive ascendancy, but only by God’s victory over the final unleashing of evil, which will cause his Bride to come down from heaven. God’s triumph over the revolt of evil will take the form of the Last Judgment after the final cosmic upheaval of this passing world.

yes this is persecution that precedes apostasy - it shook the faith of many and was a catalyst for the final apostasy.

The reason why we have EMHC’s is because of the shortage of priests.

Because God has endowed each of us with a “mind, intellect, freewill” permnantely attached to our souls" ; we alone, among ALL living things have what is necessary to discover God, which is the precise RIGHT use of these SPIRITUAL GIFTS.

That so many freely choose not too and are “pro-Satan/pro SELF” make me wonder how much longer God can and WILL be patient?

One must seek GOD"S approval “not mans” or perrish!..It’s our choice!

Ummmmm…all New Agers I am aquainted with are NOT pro-Satan, and certainly not pro-self. “Love and Service” seems to be their motto. OK, they are not pro-Christian, but very few are anti-Christian, mostly wanting Christians to leave them alone. Perhaps you have a different set of New Agers in mind?

I have “New Age” friends: It is Not Religion, it is hopelss focus on Own Ideas, Not God of any form. My New Age friends believe there are many ‘gods’, anyone can be a ‘priest’; anything they think can be ‘holy’ or ‘blessed’. New Age is a self ‘spirituality’, of one’s own ideas; hopeless and empty. They end up Looking for God, Genuine ‘spirituality’ only The Church or Islam offers.

There is nothing to look forward to except reincarnation in a better human person by most ‘new age’. Returninfg over and over again as ‘better/improved’ human; one such is a Harvard PhD, wealthy, self-centered who can’t answer how he can return in improved form. This group is falling apart, because have no focus other than themselves. This New Age clique claims “New Teachings of Christ” to replace the Old Ideas. they hate the Church, calling it Phony ideas of Men, with gimmicks like Mass to get donations and loyalty. Of course the Roman and Orthodox Church of Christ number 1.3 Billion, Very High and Rich Culture and Inspiration; exact opposite of their Self Focused new spiritual ideas, lack of identity or even music, except old basic Christian Hymns. One New Age Group. No Future, like Christ Offers.
I asked why their 'new Teachings of Christ' were written in Traditional Thou/Thine King Henry wording, trying to get a following. Nervous no answer. I also found Nothing interesting or memorable, or even new ideas in their massive series of 'new teachings' new bible of theirs.
