I’m looking to buy a few religious films on iTunes. Any suggestions for a good film?

But I’m finding it hard to get a good list of films on it due to their limited genre listings and a bad “if you liked this, you’ll also like” setup.

So far I have on my wish list:
The Robe
The Way(Martin Sheen’s superb film, this is the first purchase)
Passion of the Christ(but already have the DVD)
A Man for all Seasons
Brother Sun, Sister Moon
The ten commandments

Ben Hur is on there, but I’ve got the Bluray.

I’m selling my DVD/Bluray collection is why.

I know there’s plenty of classic films, but I’ve got no idea where to start.

Any help?

Of Gods and Men

Older films but still great:

Bells of Saint Mary
Song of Bernadette

The Mission
The Scarlet and the Grey
Beckett
Joan of Arc

I’ve seen lots more - I just can’t remember their names right now.

St. Therese – available, I know in both DVD and BluRay, don’t know what iTunes is, but came out just a couple of years ago, so might be available to you. Great film! Great Saint! Entered Carmelite Cloister at 15, died at 24, and her “Diary”, written while she was dying, called also “Journey of a Soul” became a best seller within 5 years after her death! (It was written to be used only by the Carmelites as part of her Obituary, and was written by her at the order of her Superior at the Convent, when they knew she was dying. She wrote it in longhand on a paper tablet. Greatest book (other than the Scriptures) in my own spiritual journey!🙂

They have “Becket” and “The Story of Ruth”. Both are excellent. 👍

Here is one list of films to consider-the Vatican’s list of best films of all times–at old.usccb.org/movies/vaticanfilms.shtml
Some of the recommended movies are not religious films however–but some of them are. (Since this list is some years old, though, it does not cover more recent movies.)

I greatly enjoyed the 2 episode film on Pius XII. It’s about 3 1/2 hours total.

don’t know what iTunes is
Sorry, I thought this would be obvious.

It’s from Apple(iPhone, iMac, etc). It’s their “digital download”(and also MP3 playing program) service which you can get on any computer(PC included), and on iPad and iPhone. The quality of the films is the usually the same as Bluray(1080p), but you can also buy the cheaper “DVD quality” version on most movies. The movie is stored in the “Apple Cloud”, and can be downloaded permanently to your computer, iPad, iPhone or TV(see below). You can also “rent” films, they will automatically delete after 2 days from the first play(and can be left not played for 30 days). On an average Broadband connection it takes 15 minutes to download a full film, but the movie can actually be played as soon as the download speed exceeds the playback speed(a really nifty feature!).

You can watch the movie on practically any Apple device. And of cause the dreaded “Scratches” will never ruin the movie ever again(though a faulty WiFi connection might!)!

You can also buy a “Set-top Box”(called Apple TV), that plugs into your LCD television. I have this device, because it’s helping me “get rid of the clutter”, and sell my old DVDs/Blu-Rays off.

I’m glad services like this now exist, because now “I’m downloading a movie/TV-show/Mp3 from the internet” doesn’t mean you’re a pirate anymore, like it did in the “old days”!

I recommend:

The Cardinal (1963)
Joshua (2002) (It’s listed under Drama, rated G.)

“Black Robe” is on there. Is that film worth watching?

I heard it was rated “Adult”(for some nudity and violence), but is also a great Catholic film?

I strongly recommend that you watch Dean Wright’s “For Greater Glory”

It is an amazing and inspirational movie about a war that was fought for religious freedom, between the Catholic Church and the Mexican government between 1926-1929.

Coincidentally, I made a thread about this particular film today:
forums.catholic-questions.org/showthread.php?t=835694

Anyways, I really think you’ll find this film interesting at the very least; but most likely it will be a movie you won’t soon forget.

Hope this helps.

I’m searching for movie–“The Greatest Miracle”–3D animated movie. Help!
