If I were a nun, I don’t know what name I would have, but I like Sr Mary Anastasia of the Sacred Heart (or, of the Blessed Sacrament)

As a 3rd order you are allowed to choose your own when you receive your scapular and officially join the order. The purpose as I understand it, is to take on a new name to represent your new life in the order.
Is that becoming a nun?

No it’s not. Third orders are for the lay people (such as single or married people) They kinda are the branch of the order for the laity who want to be a part of the order. I believe that nuns and priests can also join the third order, correct me if I’m wrong. St. Louis de Montfort was a priest and also a member of the Third Order of the Dominicans. 🙂

I read in the Catechism that when you are baptised, you are given a Catholic name. What does this mean? And what why are you given a name?
It is fitting that every child which is born should be named. Your Baptism is your birth into the life of God. You are “born again” as a child of God, hence your new Christian name.

If my Order will allow me to change my name, I might just go with Sr. Monica but if I can pick a whole name, I will go with Sr. Monica Cecilia Therese of the Infant Jesus

I wonder if the name is available in the SsEW?

I would ask for a double name of two very spiritual religious in my life that have been a huge part of my growing in the faith and discerning the religious life.

Daughter, what temperment are you considered? My friend says I’m considered the life of the party (when I’m comfortable and close with those people). I love to do impressions/impersonations, being a goofball, joking, and dancing sometimes just with those I’m close with.
Cherie said that Sr. Mary Catherine was available. There is a Sister with the name of Sr. Catherine Mary, but since my name is a different variation, I would be allowed to add it to the list of names to give Mother when I am invested that she chooses from. I love the name of Sr. Mary Elizabeth, too, and I think that might be my first choice because of the fact that I am very, very, VERY devoted to the Visitation Mystery of the Rosary. St. Elizabeth was such a holy woman of God and I would be honored to have her as my patron in religious life.

When I took the Myers-Briggs test in my earlier college years, I registered as an INFP:

Introverted
Intuitive
Feeling
Perceptive

This is the portrait of the INFP:

There have been a few famous INFPs such as Mother Teresa of Calcutta and St. Teresa of Avila, so I am in good company. I am VERY introverted when it first comes to meeting people, but when I really get to know someone, I get rather silly.

I am also known as the “Nurturer and Protector” because I am very motherly. 😉

Awesome. I didn’t know about those personaity variations. I will have to look at that. I tend to be introverted with new people, too. It takes me a long time to warm up to people and feel secure to be silly and be myself. You sound like a great person to have in a community. I think they would be blessed to have you. And I hope the order will think the same of me.

And because Mother Theresa was one, I can’t leave out ISFJ - This is the type that longs for the safety and security of everyone. They are loyal and trustworthy, doing their best to shield others from trouble. Wanting to be of service to others, they find great satisfaction in assisting the downtrodden, and can deal with disability and neediness in others better than any other type. They don’t seek to make themselves known, preferring to work in quiet obscurity to do what they can to change the world. - The Protector

Yes you could.
It means you are a part of that Order (Carmelites, Dominicans, Franciscans, etc.) but not necessarily a nun or a priest. You’re affiliated with the order and you have their spirituality, etc. Sorry I couldn’t give a perfect explanation of it, maybe some members who are actually a part of third orders could give us their answer 🙂

I always get ISTP or INTP on those personality things… once I got a INFP.
But I can never be sure weather I’m an introvert, or extrovert! Sometimes I like meeting new people and socialising, sometimes I don’t!

Anyone know any ISTP or INTP saints?

I took a test later online (about a year ago) and was rated as an ISFJ. I am more likely to agree with the professional test than an online one, but it just shows that I have the protector instinct in me. I often form very close bonds with a select group of people and I feel betrayed when one of them violates my values or talks about me behind my back. I’ve actually had a few “friends” do this in the past and it caused friction in my future relationships until I had therapy. I still have a rough time connecting with some people though and I definitely have that to work on. 🙂

It seems if that if you were rated introvert all three times that you are definitely introverted. My mom was rated an extrovert on the Keirsey Temperament scale when she was in college and it suits her. She is a lot more outgoing than me. I’m like my dad and my younger sister would probably be rated an extrovert like my mom since she has always been a social butterfly.

Here is a list of all famous people with personalities:

I was actually thinking of the times that I was measured as an ISFJ when I thought about Mother Teresa and St. Teresa of Avila. I actually measure the same as the Blessed Virgin Mary (probable, but not accurately known), St John (the beloved disciple), and St. Luke.

I’m an INFJ

and it is also said that Mother Teresa was one…it is weird that she should be so many personality types.

They say that St. John of the Cross was an INFJ, maybe why I fit in with the Carmelites so well!

Ok so I have to ressurect this thread. My friends and I were talking about this in the chapel a few weeks back and when my friend Luke asked what his name would be, he very bluntly said: Judas Macabeas of the Wrath of God. That would certainly be a new one!

Certainly would be. 🙂

As for myself, I’ve also thought (read: fantasized) about it before. The one I like best is Godelieve of the Sacred Heart.

One of the Orders I’m in Discernment with, the Servants of the Lord and the Virgin of Matara all take Mary, Marie, Maria etc. and they all take a title of Our Lady, any title.
So if I enter with them I’m going to give a list of names I’ve thought of and let them pick one. My top choices are
Sr. Rosa Mysica
Sr. Mary of the Annunciation
Sr. Mary Morning Star
Sr. Marie de Immaculata
Sr. Notre Dame de Pacem
Sr. Mary Gate of Heaven
👍

Those are nice

When I take the scapular (our version of the habit) in December I’m thinking of going with Faustina Clare of Divine Mercy and the Eucharist.

Even though that seems long it is definitely not the longest one in my order lol 😃

Most of the orders I’m discerning with currently have you submit three names. The three I would (or God willing will) submit are

Sister Miria Rose

Sister Solanus Regina

Sister Peter John Marie

If I get to choose a title it would be Of the Seven Holy Wounds.

They do all have meaning in my life. Miria Rose reminds me of how I gave my vocation to the Blessed Mother and am striving to allow her to lead me to where her Son wants me.
I have a big devotion to Solanus Casey and he really helped me through some hard times my senior year of high school. My relationship with the Blessed Mother started with me praying the Salve Regina every day after Mass.
I have a big devotion to St. Peter of Verona as well as St. Peter the Apostle. John Marie is for John Marie Vianney whom I also have a strong devotion to.
