What do the terms “religious life” and “consecrated life” mean to you?

Hey SS,

What a great question! For me, religious life is a life that is totally centered on my God. I live my daily life with that God who has taken me by the hand and led me through all the ups and downs, and sometimes taken me by the hair and led me where I did not want to go…

Consecrated life means that my life belongs to Him so that I might have the joy of giving His life to my brothers and sisters. Like Mary, my yes to Him means Life and Salvation for the whole world…

Again thanks for the awesome question. I really liked your blog also. Keep up the great work and maybe we can see each other in Rome sometime. Are you going to Vespers tonight or St. Pete’s tomorrow?

Brother Scott,

Thanks for your response. I moved back to the States… and thus will not be going to St. Peter’s for Vespers. But, I have met you twice, I believe. Once in Napa, and the other time in Rome (it was Easter or Divine Mercy Sunday of 2005 when I came over for cena).

🙂

Does anyone else have any thoughts on these terms? I would appreciate it if you could share them if you do, because I don’t know how people view these two terms in general.

Thanks!

To me “religious life” denotes a vocation whereas “consecrated” can be true of all the different states of life/vocations.
