Anyone know where I can obtain a small reliquary. I have a relic I just received and want a place to keep it. I do not want a big reliquary on a stand. I would like something small, maybe even pocket sized? Any advice?

I see them (unfortunately) on ebay from time to time. Small ones. I hate to see them sold like that, but if it were to be purchased and used for a good purpose, I guess I’d feel better.

But first, I’d check with your bishop to make sure you are doing the right thing by doing so and find out if there isn’t some sort of blessing or something that needs to be done surrounding placing the relic in a reliquary. Or is it even permitted?

Hopefully someone here will know more.

The small reliquary at the link below is alittle on the pricey side at $77 but its small enough I think to meet your standards.

There use to be on ebay small glass and metal box reliquaries but they were sold out so this is the only other place for a small reliquary I have ever found.

Since the first poster brought the point on whether there is special permission needed in order to display relics in a private home setting… I will say that I have never heard of this before. I know there that in order to “obtain” certain relics you may need to contact your local Bishop and get a letter from his eminence to send to the postulator of the relic so that you may be able to receive the relic. In my experience not all postulators are as strict.

Hope this helps.

God bless

Dang thats unfortunate that only big stand reliquaries seem to be all thats available. I want something small that can be held… Ya Ebay seems sketchy for relics and reliquaries…

The reliquary I posted is not big at all, even with the tiny stand, it stands at only 3 inches tall.

At Eastern Christian supply they sell reliquary containers that you can put the relic in and it doesn’t have a stand, you can hold it and place it on your prayer shrine table.

In case the link doesn’t take you to the right page, just type in reliquary and it will give you the optional links at the top of page. The only drawback to these relic containers is that you have to make sure your relic is small enough to fit into ti.

Right, I may go for something like that, but I was really hoping for something pocket sized. I am getting a few relics in the mail and already recieved one. I want to have a place for them without spending too much money or taking up too much space…

Sorry, I posted before editing my earlier post about the relic containers… They start at $14.95 in price. But like I said before you have to make sure they are the right size for the relics you will be receiving.

Hey those are perfect! Thank you!

Must a reliquary be blessed before placing the relic inside?
