Well actually, Amiens Cathedral also claims to have St. John’s head. And the Umayyad Mosque in Damascus. And the Residenz Museum in Munich, Germany. And Gandzasar Monastery in Armenia (or at least they had them). And the town of Halifax in West Yorkshire also had claims that the first religious settlers of the district brought St. John’s ‘face’ (halig=holy, fax=face) with them. The skull is in San Silvestro in Rome, just saw it this past Easter.
There was a film years ago that took place in medieval times, and a hawker at a fair was offering, for a small price, to show the fairgoers Jesus’ skull, as a baby. Don’t doubt that he got some takers!I’m still waiting for someone to come up and claim to have St. John’s skull when he was twelve years old. Nah, just joking.![]()
Well, at least his arm is said to be in Topkapi Museum. The Serbian Orthodox Cetinje monastery in Montenegro and the Romanian Skete Prodromos in Mount Athos also claim to have (parts of?) John’s right hand. The Armenian Mother Church of Holy Nazareth, Kolkata also makes the claim of possessing a piece of his hand, which is brought once a year at St. John the Baptist Armenian Church at Chinsurah, West Bengal. His right forearm and hand are (supposedly) in the Topkapi Museum in Istanbul; I was there in '71.
