I just remebered a sin I should have confessed last time I went to confession. It was an honest mistake. Should I confess this sin next time I go to Confession or was it taken care of and I shouldn’t worry about it? Thanks and God bless.

Since you did not withhold the confession of the sin willfully, when you were absolved that was it, there is no need to reconfess.

Now if it weighs heavily on your conscience you can still reconfess it if you would like some spiritual guidance on how to perhaps deal with that particular sin. But there is no need to reconfess.

Yes, it was forgive since it was not intentionally omitted. However, you should let the Priest now the next time you go to Confession and you had forgotten a sin and then confess it. God bless

The Trent Catechism puts it this way…

After saying how awful it is to conceal some sins (which is not your situation) it is taught that the entire confession must be repeated, because it was sacriligiously done, the following is said, in regard to “Sins Forgotten”

But should the confession seem defective, either because the penitent forgot some grievous sins, or because, although intent on confessing all his sins, he did not examine the recesses of his conscience with sufficient accuracy, he is not bound to repeat his confession. It will be sufficient, when he recollects the sins which he had forgotten, to confess them to a priest on a future occasion.

Then it says that we should be diligent in examining our consciences, so as to not forget to confess mortal sins.

If you had not remembered the sin, then it would be ok, but since you did remember it, go on and confess it. But don’t be scrupulous, trying to remember all sorts of things. God’s not “out to get ya.”

I am in a similar situation… just forgot to confess something and remembered it about 10 minutes after I went to confession.

In my heart the sin keeps nagging at me, yet I know that since I did not wilfully withold it the sin was forgiven.

So now I can go to Holy Communion, yet I still feel the need to mention what I did that I forgot to confess.

Since in my heart I know what I forgot to confess is sinful, I should mention it the next time I go to confession… just for my mind’s sake so I can get it off my back so to say because it keeps nagging me, telling me “look what you did and forgot to confess”.

IF it was a **mortal **sin (serious matter, FULL knowledge and deliberate) then you need to confess it. The usual formula is, “And___________, which I forgot in a previous confession.” it is still forgiven, but needs to be confessed.

If it was a venial sin, it does not need to be confessed.

If it is an imperfection, try not to even think about it.
