I was wondering if there any particular devotions or practices that can be recommended for despair and/or depression?

A devotion to the Lord’s divine mercy through readings and prayer is one. St. Faustina is the secretary of this divine mercy and wrote a wonderful diary. The chaplet of divine mercy is a great daily devotion. I’m partial to this because of the help I’ve received and need concerning this mercy. Someone might be able to suggest something that pertains to your needs and reason’s for despair that is more helpful Tim

Hugs. When you feel bad, hug someone to make them feel good.

Does wonders for me!

This prayer might help.
Oh ! my Jesus just as You went through the agony of not beinig able to feel Your Fathers presence while you went through the pain of our sins in gethseminy. To Your Blessed death.
Rememberme this time and help me, for I do not have the strength to go through this alone. Give me the strength, let me feel Your presence , be by my side.
I know you will never give me more than I can take, so please give me the graces I need to get through this. Send me the right people to assist me.
I pray this in the loving name of Jesus Christ my saviour.

When you look at the Crucifix, there you will see all of your offenses, your mistakes, your faults nailed to the Cross and held there away from you by the Love that did not descend from the Cross because He desired mercy for you and to take the burden of all of your offenses away from you and give you Peace.

You may form the habit of devotion to the Cross and pray often the Stations of the Cross, the Divine Mercy Chaplet and the Sorrowful Mysteries of the Most Holy Rosary. But far exceedingly ask Jesus to give you a perfect love of the Cross and a strong devotion to the Blessed Sacrament, where we see the death of our sins and our hope of resurrection in Jesus.

In the Living Prayer of my life

Be strong for it is when you see only one pair of shoes that they are Jesus not yours. I ask that all strength in Jesus be for you
