Wednesday’s scheduled hearing for an Army sergeant accused in a fatal grenade attack in Kuwait was postponed because he apparently tried to overpower an MP.
Military leaders at Fort Bragg say the incident took place about 7 am as Sgt Hasan Akbar was preparing for his pre-trial motion hearing inside the Staff Judge Advocate Building on post.
According to a statement released by Fort Bragg, Akbar attempted to overpower one of his MP guards. The MPs quickly regained control of Akbar. During the incident, both Akbar and one of the MPs suffered injuries.
According to an Eyewitness News source close to the investigation, Akbar grabbed a pair of scissors off a desk and stabbed the MP in the neck and shoulder area. It’s unclear what type of injuries Akbar received, but according to the statement, both Akbar and the MP received medical attention.
