I like the email and photo idea.

It’s a long way for me to come get Shell.

And I’m here to tell you, I have an almost 19 year old cat, two 18 year old cats, and 1 four year old cat. When the two 18 year olds go to their Reward, then we are getting a dog.The girls will not let me out of that.

I hope, if you decide to no longer care for this poor little creature, that you will indeed take it to the pound, even if the end result is that it will be put down. I love cats beyond belief (am very close to being the classic “crazy cat lady”), but know they are better off being gently taken out of life than dying a terrible death.

Animals do not fear death; they do not understand pain.

No, we plan to still keep feeding him/her. We think it’s a him. We went up there tonight, we got there a little later than normal, and didn’t see him, but we left the food in the same spot. It’s not too far from where we live, so it isn’t that bad. I will keep trying to find him a home though.😦

Not to be a grinch, but milk is bad for cats.🙂
I second this. Most cats once they are no longer kittens actually become lactose intolerant. In other words, a cat will very willingly lap up the milk, but then it will suffer from diarhea as the undigestible milk passes through their digestive tract.

Don’t feed cats milk!

We found that out that hard way!!:ouch: Our son’s job is to take care of the cat’s litter box, and a few months ago he yelled out…‘moooooommmm…stop feeding the cat miiiiilkkkk!’

I knew what that meant. 😊

Most supermarkets now sell special lactose-free pet milk that’s made for dogs and cats and isn’t ridiculously expensive. Ours get a small amount after their breakfast as a treat.

Yes indeed. This is a rough choice, but a more humane one.

We are fortunate enough to live in a that has access to all kinds of farmers who need cats in their hay barns to keep mice at bay. If we cannot find a home soon, Sally will be sent to a friend’s farm. He already has three cats and is wanting more. I think she would do well there.
.
I was thinking about this…Really, trying to find a farmer to take a cat…Around here, the Mennonite farms always want more cats, as long as they are reasonably socialized. No feral cats, but they reallyy make a good home for homeless kitties . They get to hunt, & be around other animals, which they generally end up being very happy together.

I would vote that, if you really cannot adopt the cat, to start looking for a farmer…Another idea is to call local nursing homes & assisted living places. Those elderly people are lonely, & many have had to give up their pets…Even the ones you would think that they don’t know where they are any more, will calm down and pet a nice cat. More & more places have them as therapy for the residents.

You know. Hmmm…this is a really good idea. I hadn’t thought of it. We are surrounded by horse farms where I live. It’s an area that is trying to break free of being strictly rural…they are building up restaurants and that, but there is a huge section of farm land…so, what would I do exactly? How would I get the word out to these horse farmers? I don’t know if this cat has been neutered, or has shots, etc…so, they would have to take care of that.

But you are setting such a wonderful example for your little one…

Aw…truth be told, she is the one that started this whole feeding the cat at that gas station thing. But, how can we stop now, you know? I told her tonight–that cat has it made. He can hang out in the wild, but know he has fancy feast coming his way at night.😃

Do a google search for cat rescues in your area (not shelters). Call up one and ask if they have any advice. My dad finds feral cats all the time at work, and they call a local rescue who traps and neuters/spays the adults and take them in to try and socialize them.

Many shelters won’t take ferals because they can’t be adopted, but some rescues are just animal lovers who would at least give you some advice!

Just got back from mass and…feeding our feral little friend. lol I am starting to think he was born out in the wild…because after all this time, he/she is still rather timid of my dd. And my dd is talks to her/him in a sweet voice…baring food of course. lol But, he/she did eat the food with dd nearby, so that’s improvement. I’m going to keep calling around…and calling the horse farms…and see what happens. Have a good week, all!

Thanks for the link, Guitar. :o

lol…my kitty is a sweetie though…his name is saber.
A former neighbor my mine years ago once had a kitten with that name. He was such a sweet kitten - always came over to our yard, and always greeted us in the morning. He got hit by a car when he was 18 months. 😦

We always seem to have animals come over to our house. Lost dogs, lost cats, (neighbor’s dogs and cats, too) and lots of wildlife (for living 1 street away from the city) including birds, rabbits, squirrels, fox (a few streets over), and the odd opposum (not to mention the Christmas Mice, too!). I think we should get a St. Francis statue for the garden at this rate… 😃
