Remembering sins during absolution

During confession today, I remembered two sins I had committed (I am unsure whether or not they were mortal, though I tend to think that they were not) just as the priest was giving me absolution. I brought this up to him immediately afterward. He didn’t seem concerned by it and sent me out.

I’m a very scrupulous person, and I wonder if I am guilty of withholding potentially mortal sins during confession by not insisting that I be given absolution for the sins I had remembered.

Should I worry about this, or go ahead and receive communion tomorrow anyway?

If the priest know about it, and thought you were okay, then you were okay. Remember, in the Catholic Church, we don’t actually have to be perfect - we just have to want to be - which is refreshingly freeing.

The way I understand it… as explained by our priest…When going to confession… you are forgiven for all of your sin… even if you have forgotten one… Now if you intentionally left one out…That’s a different story.

Remember, in the Catholic Church, we don’t actually have to be perfect - we just have to want to be - which is refreshingly freeing.

That is very comforting and I hope and suppose it is true. I generally think it is quite impossible for me to be perfect.

Note to original poster: If you think they might be mortal sins (grave matter, full knowledge, full intent) or if you are not sure, then you should confess those sins at your next confession and mention that you had merely forgotten about them during your previous confession.

You received absolution and if you just honestly forgot you are forgiven. So you can receive Holy Communion so long as you are in a state of grace.
