Sometimes little boys put rocks in their pockets. So, even if you know that there is no spare change, check for rocks.😃

(I’m hoping I found them all, and I won’t need a plumber or washer repairman)

Good point. And soldiers leave ink pens in their pockets. Nothing like a washer load of ruined clothes (including ACUs!!!) with ball point pen ink all over them to start a Monday morning. Only thing worse is when the pen makes it through the washer undetected only to explode in the dryer and get baked in to everything there, including the walls of the dryer. Never forget to check pockets…

And big boys consistently leave their wallets in their pockets… At least my son has the cleanest license in town šŸ˜‰

Good news–paper money often survives a trip through the washer!

My laundry nemesis is probably undetected kleenex in pockets.

Man oh man a single kleenex goes a long ways when put in a washer!

My boys have helpfully discarded disposable diapers in our laundry baskets.

That absorbent filling gets everywhere.

I also have tie-dyed underwear thanks to a couple crayons. šŸ˜‰

Noooooo!

I had another mishap that wasn’t anybody’s fault but mine. I put a bathmat with a rubbery backing in the washer and then the dryer. I think it may have come apart, but the main issue was that it produced an incredible lingering odor for a couple weeks afterward. I thought it would never go away. I’m pretty sure I wound up tossing it out after that.

So, from now on, I’m only getting the thick textile bathmats without the rubbery backing. I’ve got to be able to machine wash and dry the things from time to time.

A great thing about the internet is the availability of information on doing appliance repairs. It’s saved me a lot of money troubleshooting and fixing my machine on several occasions.

Speaking of laundry and kids, I have occasionally caught Baby Girl ā€œhelpfullyā€ throwing dirty clothes into a dryer full of clean clothes, because the dryer is in easy reach.

Same here! Also, my husband has left a small pocket knife in his pocket a few times. It is very clean now. šŸ™‚

I put in a USB thumb drive in my jacket once. It went through the washing machine and through the dryer. It still worked after all that.

Actually, I have been the ā€œguilty partyā€ myself when it comes to this! 😊

Tissues, and paper towels.

I would stick them in my pockets when going out or when cleaning, etc., and then would be in a rush to help get the laundry together if my DH was getting some together for a load.

I’d then forget that they were in my pockets, and I would forget to tell my DH to check, and then he’d forget, and then the next thing you know, it’s ā€œsnowing tissues/paper towelsā€¦ā€ šŸ˜›

Oh my, what a mess, if you haven’t gone through picking off shredded tissues off of everything! :o

Yeah I’m quickly learning that. Little ones come with all sorts of little things that seem to make their way into the wash.

That has happened to me far more times than I would care to mention in public. :rotfl:

My husband has a card reader so he can log into government accounts both at work and home for work that he’s had to replace more times than I can count. My kids do ok with most things but my husband is notorious for messing up laundry. I’ve threatened to make him wash by hand like he did growing up.

I’ve gotten a little compulsive about washing separately (or in strict color categories) all new clothing items, because of an incident some years ago when I got a huge lot of new kid clothes at the GAP outlet store and wrecked most of them in the first washing.

On the bright side, I’ve never done that again.
