Is it ok to remind part-time catholic family members (they go to church a few times a year) to go to All Saints Day mass? As is common today with so many, they would be very likely to receive communion while not being in a state of grace. There is no way I am going to confront them on this, because they won’t understand anyway. I don’t want to be an accessory to someone receiving the eucharist when they are not suppossed to, but it is a holy day of obiligation. What do you do in this circumstance?

MYOB? – unless these people are your children, living under your roof, supported by you, your reminder would be considered an intrusion.

Considered by whom? If a part-time Catholic is offended by a gentle reminder of his or her obligation, how is that a reason not to tell them?

If these are people over whom the OP does not have authority, if they are adults, if they are old enough to make their own choices, or if younger, they are under the authority of another, it is nobody’s business but their own or their parents.

Well, I suppose what the OP does is none of your business, either. It is not inconceivable that a part-time Catholic might actually appreciate the reminder. Like a sibling, for example. Or a friend or acqaintance.

And who knows what might happen at that Mass. They might be touched by the Lord and their faith re-kindled.

I suppose we’re not supposed to admonish sinners, either?

The only way to broach that is to give an example of what you are doing that day. Call them and ask them how Halloween was last night and then say “I never get to Mass on the vigil for All Saints Day I will have to go later today” and leave it at that. If they are Catholic at all they know what you are talking about and can’t say you are not MYOB.

And as long as they are not members of one of the Catholic churches that do not keep Nov 1 as All Saints Day…

I think a reminder would be that… Just a reminder, not an intrustion… Almost forgot it was a HDoO due to a lot on the mind and doubt i was the only one
