Once per day is hardy an addiction. If you are missing work or school, or are getting in trouble with the law because of it, then there is probably an addiction. You sound like a typical young man who is doing his best to follow Christ in this sex saturated world we live in.

You are not unusual. The truth is that nearly all men do this occasionally from the time they reach puberty until they reach old age. This includes married men although it’s a good bit easier for them. Too often this practice gets labeled as an addiction when it is nothing more than typical albeit sinful human (especially male) behavior. Young men are especially prone to engage in it due to the extremely high levels of testosterone present.

As Christians we are called to do our best to avoid it and the things that arouse our desire to do it. This is not easy. But there are things you can do to help. Avoiding pornography and immodest company and bad music like the plague is a good place to start. This is probably the single biggest all time struggle for Christian men. As I have said in other posts, if anyone can find a man who truly does not struggle with this at least on occasion, I’ll buy them a steak dinner!

The most important thing is to not feel like you are a failure or a bad person because you are not able to be perfect all of the time. But this does not mean that we should give up the fight. Do not shame yourself or allow anybody else to shame you about this…ever! Shame produces guilt, fear, sadness and stress which when combined becomes rocket fuel for the development of addiction. God knows your heart and loves you unconditionally.

Do your best my friend and share this message with other young men who may be struggling.
This is a balanced answer that I agree with. 👍

You owe be a dinner. I don’t masturbate and have not done that since before March 21, 1993. Scameter, On that day I was baptized a Catholic. I was raised in no religion and as a boy I self abused all the time. I started to believe in CHrist when I was about 21 but I still continued to self abuse. Then at the age of 26 I discover the Catholic Faith. The more I learned about the Faith the more I learned about Truth. That is when I started to battle against self abuse. At the age of 27 I was doing a good job fighting against it but at times I still failed. But with the grace of my baptism I never did it again. I have been a Catholic for 16 years and I never once have done it, again. You do not have to be a slave to it. Continue studying to be a CAtholic then when you are one use the Sacrament of Confession and the HOLy Communion as often as you can. I am nobody and with our LOrds help I did stop doing it and you can too. With self control one has self respect. There are not self abusers in heaven. You can beat this problem!

Masturbation is a sin, but a young boy may not be able to control it. I was also like that. I prayed because I thought it is a gret sin. But I may advise you that you just enjoy your life. I think you need not control these practices. Just go on. Since you are 18, you must have a girl friend. Lead a good romantic life. Stay with her. Otherwise you will regret in the future. There is no need to think about God always. We are in this world. Just enjoy worldly pleasures. When you face a bitter event, then pray to God rigourously, also no others should see that you are praying to God. The things related with God will carried out by priests and bishops. As a young man, enjoy your youth.
I hope that was a joke… :dts:

Thanks (almost) everyone for their replies. I would respond individually, but honestly everyone said their points pretty well! I look very forward to my baptism and the enlightening mental clarity it grants. I also pray to St. Michael to fight against Satan and his temptations in my mind, and I ask those here to ask for his intercession for me too. Thanks again to everyone and God bless. 🙂

Go back and re-read my post. I never once said that all men masturbate. I said that all of us struggle. We are all tempted and my best guess is that probably 80-90% of us guys of all ages actually do fall to the temptation on occasion. It is truly wonderful that you have been able to resist the temptation. But as men, you know as well as I do that the struggle is never over.

Amen, the struggle is never over,as a young boy, I struggled with it .I tried everything, weekly confession etc, I tried imposing physical penance on my self for atonement of this sin. I could never beat it, I am now 70 yrs old & still struggle with it, I think a lot of men Catholic or otherwise are in the same boat, not to be gross, but its there, its easily accessible, it feels good , when we take showers we find ourselves lingering there,it does relieve stress etc. I think most men & a lot of women struggle with it all their life
