just to reiterate, Renew as it stands now is not the same program as Renew2000, it has been revamped so you should make your judgement, if your parish is considering it, on current Renew materials, not on Renew2000 materials. Also evaluate it for what it claims to be, not what it isn’t. It is, like disciples in Mission and Christ Renews His Parish and similar programs primarily an evangelization program, and they share a similar philosphy: first begin with established faithful parishioners who meet to hear, reflect on and do faith sharing with the Sunday Gospel on a regular basis. These people are supposed to form a core who will then evangelize the inactive parishioners, from there to the rest of the parish territory.

A group interested in exploring the Latin Mass, teaching the responses and chants etc. would be focused primarily on liturgical renewal in the parish, bringing practice in line with the actual guidelines, eliminating abuses etc., so their focus and means would be different. If you did not understand what their purpose was, it would be silly to criticize them for not evangelizing, since that was not their focus to begin with.

It is one of several parish renewal and evangelization programs, which has in the meantime been somewhat revamped and reorganized, and is now called Renew. It has a website, check it out. Traditionalists are probably against any renewal program that does not involve restoring the Latin Mass and requiring women to wear veils.
Now, I know you’re a nice lady, so I’m not offended, but was that calculated to open a can of worms and derail the thread?😛

it was intended to eliminate the use of the word “traditionalist” since it is far too elastic to be useful in a discussion of this type.
