Renewal of Wedding Vows Outside of Church

My grandparents got married in 1949. When they took their wedding vows, my grandparents did not say “for 25 years”, “for 50 years”, or more…they said “til death do us part”. In 1999, my family had a 50’th anniversary celebration for them. They were asked by some among their family and friends if they would renew their wedding vows. They said “no”. My grandmother said something like “we see no need to renew what has never been broken”. 59 1/2 years later, they are still happily married- and are both outstanding examples of holy and devout people. I think this is my view on renewal of wedding vows- whether in church or not.

Now, a blessing for married couples is different- that’s a good thing to do.
