I was raised Catholic and my wife a Baptist. I went to church on and off for about 10 years after confirmation then stopped going. I met my soon to be wife about 10 years later. A few years after that we were married in an Episcopalian church by a Protestant minister. My wife started attending non denominational services and I soon followed going for about 10 years and then stopped. My father passed away last January and during the wake the Deacon said some profound things which told me to come home to my Catholic faith. I have been going to church since then. I wanted to renew my vows so that the Catholic church would recognize our marriage as a sacrament, I spoke with Father and he agreed as did my wife.

On Saturday October 26th we renewed our vows after 28 years of marriage. I’ve battled alcohol my whole life, the last drink I had was on 6/2/13. I look at this as a new start to my new life, please pray for us.

Beautiful! Thank you for sharing your story. May God bless you abundantly.

What a great coming home story! God bless you and your family and I will pray for you.

In Catholic belief, a convalidation is not a “renewal of vows”, it is a first exchange of consent, so your marriage anniversary is counted from the date of that ceremony. You were not married before then; there is nothing to renew.

At any rate, congratulations and welcome home!

I apologize if I offended anyone with the title of the thread. So I guess since I haven’t been married before, our 25 year old daughter is a bastard child, who would have thought.

BTW, thanks for the words of encouragement.
