SPG opened 49 malls in ten states in the first few days of May, while another mall giant, Macerich, had reopened 20 shopping centers as of May 19, with plans to reopen 35 more by the end of May, as CO reported.
However, it’s important to note that most of the malls that reopened did so with limited hours, and not all businesses have resumed, with many restaurants, retail stores and movie theaters remaining closed by choice, or in compliance with states

I wonder how malls will do as many are already struggling to stay open.

I think it’s really interesting how different parts of the country and people of different political persuasions are handling this covid-19 thing.

Here in Northern Virginia, we are still hunkered down and only going to stores when we need to. But, the Wal-mart down the road always seems to have a full parking lot.

My evangelical nephew in a southern, open state, posted a picture on social media of he and his wife, my brother and his wife, and my nephew’s in laws all having a maskless Mother’s day dinner. All three of the couples live in different states and came together for this.

It’s not surprising. Policy can change, but people can still voluntarily avoid the malls.

I’ve heard the argument that small businesses may come out ahead in the retail apocalypse. Locals sympathize with their plight, and you can find items there that are not always available from the A-word. I’m not sure how much validity there is to this claim, but I hope it’s true.
