Yes we are forgiven if we repent. The aftermath of our sins remain. So why apologize and repent? You cannot undo alot of things. Stupid remarks. Then I think what is the point in feeling guilty you made your decision already. Sometimes I think it is better not to rely on feelings to evaluate sin
If you don’t feel guilty or you don’t believe you are wrong, it does not change the truth. I wish it were easier to swallow the truth about life. Just because something is true it doesn’t mean in doesn’t hurt. I guess that is my issue with correction. It sucks if it is true that you are lazy. When told things like this should I experience joy that someone is telling me my transgressions. Who wants to believe they are lazy, immature, overly sensitive? I guess it would be easier to be cruel and take responsibility for that it gives you power

Yes, the secondary effect, the temporal punishment remains. Subjective basis does not mean by feelings, but based upon the personal condition of the sinner. Isn’t guilt or shame primary, for even Adam hid from God. The guilt helps with repentance. Remember from the Old Testament, certain things move us to action,

Proverbs 14:
9 The wicked scorn a guilt offering, but the upright find acceptance.
Proverbs 25:
21 If thy enemy be hungry, give him to eat: if he thirst, give him water to drink: 22 For thou shalt heap hot coals upon his head, and the Lord will reward thee.

We do receive virtue through sanctifying grace including faith, hope, and charity.

Yeah there has to be a temporal punishment. If there wasn’t how would we learn from our mistakes?

Yeah sometimes an apology cannot undo the wrongs you committed. But I think sometimes an apology is partly for our benefit as well as the one we wronged. By owning up to your mistake with an apology (verbally out loud) you are more likely to accept the mistake you made and take it to heart. This is the importance of confession to a Priest. You are verbally owning up to your sins, by doing this you are taking control of the sin, not the other way around. Sure some people say you can confess directly to God, but think it through logically, if you are to embarrassed to tell a sin to a Priest behind a screen, because he might recognize your voice, how can you believe you can tell it directly to God, whom you should hold at a higher standard, and be repentant in your heart?

Yeah I’m not a feelings guy either. I think we should always seek the truth with an open mind and keep our opinions and emotions on the back burner, whether we agree or disagree with the truth.

It is always difficult for us to accept our own faults, Yep the truth hurts as the saying goes. You pretty much described one of my daughter to a T. From personal experience I would say the truth not only hurts her, it hurts all of us that loves her. Once again I would say we should always want to seek the truth, sure it might not be the answer we are looking for, but God gave us the truth to make us better. I look at my daughter (lazy, immature, overly sensitive) and the only thing that pains me is how much of life she is missing out on. In life someone always has to do the work, there is no way around it. However, the one that does the work is usually the one that gets the reward. If not in this life, it will be in the next.

Op: You’ve typed catholic as your religion. So as a Christian you already have the answers to any of the questions in your post. You already believe this life is short and nothing compared to the eternal life you strive for. That is the prize, the answer to all your whys. If you believed in reincarnation or rebirth I suppose the answer would be the same. The prize of Samadhi or enlightenment or the prize of a better rebirth. Either way this life is just a journey a short journey but a journey where we meet others for a shorter or longer time. During this journey we are meant(in my view) to be compassionate, help, and love one another as much as possible. We are not meant in my view to follow and appease our sense pleasures. That is what the other animals do because they probably don’t know any better.

I know but it is difficult to believe or comprehend or even follow thoroughly. There is knowing God then KNOWING GOD.

Have you spent time with cruel people? lol they have no power. Sometimes they may flaunt winning a battle but always they lose the war.

the repentance means ‘‘metanoia’’.
i heard that in greek language there is a word ‘‘metamelomai’’, its not really total change.
some people think they are spiritually more or less decent, but they did not repent.
in Greek translation as far as I remember the Lord is called - as the one who knows the hearts. ‘‘kardiognostes’’
for example some christian can not sin at all for a long time, but he plans to sin in the future, does he has ‘‘metanoia’’? of course - not!
sin is the junta, it is in our heart the devil’s opposition who is in war and intends to stage a coup. there are sins that as the lords sitting on a throne of man’s heart and rule. throwing out these masters from the heart is metanoia.
repair of some sins and stay in other sins is not metanoia. even if we are left a few of our favorite sins, it is not metanoia. complete repentance is possible for us under the power of the grace of God.
