Repealing DADT would eventually repeal DOMA

Since Congress voted to repeal DADT (Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell), the next move by Democrats would be to repeal DOMA (Defense of Marriage Act).

Here is the connection. In the Military, military spouses are afforded military benefits, especially medical benefits.

Congress just passed the measure called Military Readiness Enhancement Act which would repeal DADT. When it becomes active, military will have to provide services for GLBT service members to include all the benefits. However, that won’t happen unless Defense of Marriage Act is repealed. U.S. Government recognizes marriages between one man and one woman.

Just recently, Obama declared June 1-30 as Gay Pride Month. President Obama said that he plans to repeal DOMA.

Here is a copy of that speech.
Barack Obama:
Much work remains to fulfill our Nation’s promise of equal justice under law for LGBT Americans. That is why we must give committed gay couples the same rights and responsibilities afforded to any married couple, and repeal the Defense of Marriage Act. We must protect the rights of LGBT families by securing their adoption rights, ending employment discrimination against LGBT Americans, and ensuring Federal employees receive equal benefits. We must create safer schools so all our children may learn in a supportive environment. I am also committed to ending “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” so patriotic LGBT Americans can serve openly in our military, and I am working with the Congress and our military leadership to accomplish that goal.

I am really starting to dislike this President very very much. He is very liberal and a flip flapper. I recalled Obama favor marriage between as between a man and a woman.

**My Brother & fellow Soldier in Jesus Christ, our Lord & Savior, Manny,

You are correct, all men are failures, even the man elected President of our country!!

We must focus on the eternal horizon, not on the lies & arrogant selfishness we all exhibit.

Ave verum corpus, natum de Maria Virgine, Hail, true Body, born of the Virgin Mary,
vere passum, immolatum in cruce pro homine, truly suffering, sacrificed on the cross for mankind,
cuius latus perforatum fluxit aqua et sanguine: whose pierced side flowed with water and blood:
esto nobis praegustatum in mortis examine. May it be for us a foretaste [of the Heavenly banquet] in the trial of death.

O Iesu dulcis, O Iesu pie, O Iesu, fili Mariae. Miserere mei. Amen.
Oh dear Jesus, Oh merciful Jesus, Oh Jesus, son of Mary, have mercy on me. Amen.

I absolutely hope that he does repeal DOMA. However, we will have to vote more Republicans and Conservative Democrats out of office before we see this happen.

Your last sentence was incomprehensible, as I read it. Can you clarify or restate?

Also, repealing the “don’t ask don’t tell” is not necessarily tied to any Defense of Marriage act.

And this is one of the reasons why I, a lifelong Democrat, never vote for Democrats anymore.

He does. But he has also supported the repeal of DOMA, which he considers “an abhorrent law”, since the time of his 2004 Senate primary race.

As I recall, the attitude he expressed during the 2008 primary and election seasons is that each state should be free to decide the issue of same-sex marriage and that the federal government should butt out.
