I’ve been wondering…I once confessed a grave mortal sin to a priest. However, the penance seemed a little “mild” (I know thats very subjective, but…) I trust in God’s mercy, but I’m curious about the “technical” thing here. If the priest didn’t hear me correctly, is that sin still validly forgiven or should it be confessed again? Is one’s intention to confess sufficient?

No, once you have confessed a sin, it is forgiven with the prayer of absolution.

Do you gather the priest didn’t hear you because of the light penance? If so I think that would be unfounded.

In any situation, God’s grace overcomes any technicalities on our part.
