It’s a coincidence in year A that doesn’t happen in B or C.

If it does happen, there’s an alternate for today, namely the continuation of yesterday, which continues the Good Shepherd theme. John 10: 11-18

That solves a small mystery for me. My missalette lists the gospel as John 10: 11-18 - Second alternative, but doesn’t say alternative to what.

I went back and checked it.

In year A, it’s not just optional, it is the proper reading for Monday. Technically it’s mandatory.

The way the Lectionary is printed, it’s easy to miss it. By the time the deacon or priest realizes that there even is a different Gospel, it’s probably too late.

Just one of those things.
