I’ll donate as much time, skills, and talent I can, but my money - no. Not for the foreseeable future.

I have faith in God. Not in people. I will be going to our financial board meetings from here on out, but my donations will be to specific ministries, not to a general fund that the parish and diocese fund.

All the Catholic churches I’ve gone to have been having their money drained out slowly and surely by the fact that almost none of the Catholics coming there pay their tithing.
“Tithing”, as in 10%, is not Catholic (or Jewish, for the matter) teaching.

The 1/10 tithe applied to a particular class of Jewish priesthood, not the people in general.

Turning it to a general statement is just another round of a Protestant group latching on to a single line and “interpreting”. the entirety of scripture in terms of that lien.
You’ll never be contributing to the church again, then? How could we as lay people ever be sure that no church employee is stealing anything, ever?
In all seriousness, and speaking as a bankruptcy attorney. . . . in a diocese facing such claims but not yet settled, each additional dollar contributed to the diocese increases the settlement pool by exactly a dollar. This is a consequence of the requirements for confirmation of a plan in Chapter 11.

Are the claims public knowledge? I suppose it could be moral to redirect offerings so that they didn’t go into settling lawsuits, if you were able to be made aware that there were a lawsuit going on.

I have my answer.

As for your questions.

Love is the answer to all of them.

Love has always been the answer.

Thank you for your time.

I will not bother you good people again.

Are the claims public knowledge?
They sure seem to be, in most cases . . . and if a diocese hasn’t reported by now that it has investigated and found that its procedures for the last half century actually caught and dealt with such problems, it’s a pretty sure bet that they’re going to come out soon or later . . .
