“The 2-inch sculpture is an exceedingly rare example of figurative art from the Holy Land during the 9th century B.C. — a period associated with biblical kings. Exquisitely preserved but for a bit of missing beard, nothing quite like it has been found before.”

“In the Iron Age, if there’s any figurative art, and there largely isn’t, it’s of very low quality. And this is of exquisite quality.”

Thanks for sharing. Ahab’s existence is of course also proven by Assyrian writings.

It may be Ahab or it may not. The lead archeologist at the site is reported in the text as saying, “As the head was found in a city that sat on the border of three different ancient kingdoms, it may have depicted King Ahab of Israel, King Hazael of Aram-Damascus, or King Ethbaal of Tyre.” That uncertainty doesn’t detract from the importance of the find, however, which is truly remarkable.

I assume then, that they’re NOT on board with the Assumption ?

Not in the least. There isn’t anyone in there. The dogma of the Assumption is not mutually exclusive with saying that Mary died before she was assumed into heaven, and in fact, this is the teaching of the Church for centuries. In the East, they even call it the “Dormition,” that is, the “falling-asleep” of the Theotokos.
