The difficulty is, @Damian243, that there are large areas of overlap between religious beliefs and civil law, such as marriage, murder, and everything in between.
So because there is typically a prohibition against murder in most religions, should we not have civil law against it?
Does marriage not affect the way that a state functions, and children are raised and supported?
I would love to see a $$ amount for how much money is spent on family court for people who are hashing out support / custody. Used to be decided between married couples / families, now has to go through civil authority where a kid will live / move around from one week to the next.
