And presumably, if he did truly have some call to preach God’s Holy Word, wouldn’t you expect some kind of repentance and sorrow for the things he’s done? (Putting whether you believe him guilty of murder aside) he’s still not been the best person over the years, which is why he’s in jail now.
How do you know he isn’t repentant?

How do you know he isn’t repentant?
When he admits that he killed Nicole and whoever she was with, and gives evidence that he has conquered his personality disorder. God has blessed me in that I was privileged to see many types of mental health and personality problems growing up, OJ is a narcissic who thinks the world should bow to his “awesomeness”, there’s no room for remorse or regret in such a man. That’s how well I know him. I also know you’re naively optimistic, but that’s kind of a side effect of being in a Church, it feeds gullibility. I’m a naive dummy myself, so I have to be wary of myself. Don’t be the one to go introduce yourself when you see a bunch of Hells Angels bikers, because they’re just misguided children of the almighty and, after all, there’s some good in all of us. It’s been done before. He doesn’t want to be a faceless, anonymous penitent, he wants to be a televangelist, because he is a star. God’s power stops at narcissism, he dares not trespass. Last-ditch effort to be the center of attention from OJ. What an idiot.

He was found not guilty by the courts. We do have to accept that. None of us were there, none of us got to examine the evidence up close. We all chose our verdict based on media coverage. It is quite possible he got away with murder, but we don’t know that with certainty so to speak with such certainty that you will not accept what he says until he admits to murder is overdoing it just a tad.

I’m not “naively optimistic”, I don’t hold a very high opinion of televangelists at the best of times. I do, however, think that ones walk with God is a personal manner and it is not for us to tell someone else where they are in their walk with God. As Christ told the men stoning the adulteress, “Judge not lest ye be judged.”

That Simpson is a narcissist (like so many other televangelist) isn’t something I’m going to argue against, but if that is how you feel, does it not behoove you to pray for him, rather than condemn him for it?

I speak as a sinner who has his own issues to deal with.

It’s possible he is sincere.

It’s also possible he caught an Oprah interview and thought the lifestyle was a quick up from prison.

It’s not like he’s going to get a gig as a sideline reporter.

So many logistics, not to mention the funding.

Maybe he has a financial windfall setup like Iverson, but I think that was a special case. Smart thinking on Iverson’s management team back in the day though.

In 2007 OJ wanted his sports memorabilia back from some brokers. He and his friends charged into the hotel room where the brokers were staying demanding his property back. However, a couple of the men with him had weapons so they were charged with robbery and kidnapping. He was convicted and sentenced to about 9 years, but he can get out soon on parole.
As far as him being a preacher he has no known religious training, I’m sure he has had plenty of time to read the Bible while in prison. However, that doesn’t make him trained in religion.
I totally missed that story! I saw the thread title and was about to post, “Um, didn’t everyone hear that he was acquitted, like, 18 years ago?”

He may well be. However, he’s not planning on simply joining a church. He’s planning on becoming a televangelist, which means he’s presenting himself as a religious and spiritual figure. The bar should be set high for those assuming such roles. Considering that most televangelist already have shady backgrounds, O. J. Simpson is just setting the bar even lower.

Not the same. :doh2: is what you do when you yourself do or say something stupid. 🤦 is what you do when someone else does or says something stupid.

The concept of OJ as a televangelist just makes me want to bury my face in both hands and pray, “Lord, whatever You can do to thwart that . . .” The only religious role that I would support for him would be if he were to become a Catholic, put himself behind the walls of a cloistered monastery, and spend the rest of his life praying for the victims of abuse and doing penance for the perpetrators.

I could support that 100%. Wonderful idea! 👍

There is no Saint without a past, and no sinner without a future.

I see your point. :doh2:

:dts: is closer, but more “judgmental” 🤷

How about :ouch: ?

Does O.J. believe in the Communion of Saints? If he does, then I think he could actually do it. We all can be Saints, that is a promise of All Saints Feast.

OJ was convicted in a civil wrongful death suit and found responsible for the deaths of Goldman and Brown. The not guilty verdict came in a highly flawed murder trial. It is possible to have an informed opinion about Simpson and his crimes, and while you are right that the hope of salvation is extended to all, your statement above that “we will never know” does risk appearing naive - as if only the truth is found in courtrooms.
