The pontificate of John Paul II was heavily influenced by his rich personality, which possessed a strong love for poetics, philosophy, theology, and mysticism, said the president of the Polish bishops’ conference. He added that John Paul II was an example of holiness and leadership, similar to other patron saints of Europe, like Saints Cyril and Methodius.

His theology of the body alone makes him a doctor of the Church in practice, if not name.

The “newest” Doctor if the Church, St. Theresa of Lisieux, was named Doctor 100 years after her death. Surely such an august designation requires a more deliberate evaluation of someone’s works. Our era of “instant gratification “ should not be allowed to influence such decisions. Many would say his canonization came too quickly for that matter.

The time period by which this is premature is measured in centuries . . .

It takes time for the understandings and writings of a doctor of the church to have the influence necessary to recognize that status . . .

I am in no way knocking or putting down +JPII, but this isn’t an “honor” to be bestowed, but rather a recognition of lasting impact . . .
