“Encyclopedia Britannica describes a black mass as ‘a blasphemous and usually obscene burlesque of the true mass performed by satanic cults. The naked back of a woman often serves as an altar and a validly consecrated host is generally used to intensify the mockery.’”

The people in the Satanic Temple are atheists, its leader claims.

“I suspect that some people will go simply to be entertained. What they may not realize immediately is that simply by going, they will open themselves to the power of the demonic,” an exorcist said.

Let us pray so that this blasphemy does not happen.

Eternal Father, please guard the sanctity of the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass. Please do not let this vicious mockery of holy things take place.
In the name of Jesus Your Son I pray this request and invite others to join me in prayer.

(I mean now to pray a rosary for this cause.)

I want to dislike these people who will partake in this horrific event, but I just feel sorry for them. If you want to worship the devil, fine. But you are only hurting yourself. Gravely.

The idea of the black “mass” always confused me. If people believe in freedom of or even from religion, why mock those who believe differently? If they don’t believe in the supernatural, as they claim, why engage in any kind of ritual at all?

Of all the spiritualities I studied before becoming Catholic, “satanism” always seemed childish and cartoonish. I don’t believe most of the people attending black masses are themselves childish or cartoonish, but rather have a deep spiritual void they are trying to fill, and it may be that when someone is in the dark, peering into deeper darkness gives them a sense of light. But I’ve also learned that the spiritual life takes some real, honest, dedicated work. Just because someone goes to one church service and doesn’t “feel it”, does not negate the value of the faith. But this took many years to get through my own head, so I can understand why other struggle as well.

Lord have mercy.

And Brian K:

A) There are some who actually do worship the Evil One. Since he hates us so do they.

B) There are some who think they can gain magical power by calling upon the evil one. Since he hates us they try to please him by hating us too.

C) There are some who, whether or not they believe in the evil one, hate God/Christ/Christianity for other reasons. This kind of thing serves them as an act of defiance.

D) Edgelords. People who gain satisfaction in showing off how far they can go to defy or mock convention.

You realize they have announced this to get you up in tizzy, right? If it’s bad for their soul, then they are certainly aware if Christianity. I tend to see this all as pointless superstition.

Indeed that’s part of it. Haters and edgelords. “Freak the mundanes.”
I read that this event was being held as a protest/ counter to a large Catholic event called the Rosary Bowl taking place in Ottawa around the same time
Tis Bearself: thank you. 🙂 I didn’t know about this event.
Though I can’t attend I can add my prayers to theirs. 📿

The Rosary Bowl looks like its attendance is going to dwarf a heavy metal bar event in any case.
Many of the metalheads I know are Christian (They don’t listen exclusively to Christian metal but in their personal life they accept Christ and pray, etc) and would not want to go to a Black Mass.

One thing that would really put the breaks on this is if all the priests in the area started making sure that the communicant consumes the Eucharist like they are supposed to.

Of course that won’t happen and they’ll get Jesus somehow 😦

The things people do with their free will. Hopefully this ‘first’ is also the ‘last’. As a Canadian, I am appalled.

Given there is a woodcut of a black mass dating back to the 1500s, obtaining a Host was not particularly difficult then or since them.

But it darn well should be don’t you think?

I can’t tell based on your comment, but if you interpreted what I said as some sort of slam on the OF, don’t.

I don’t understand why the government would allow them to do this, considering that a black mass requires the theft of a consecrated host. Shouldn’t even liberal Canada be concerned about an event centered on stolen property?

“A stolen host? Oh heavens no! What makes you think we’d ever do that?

They deny it, we have no evidence. The police are helpless.

Pray. 📿 🙏 Ask God to deal with this.

The article says they won’t have a consecrated host. They claim to be “athiestic satanists”. Since that makes no sense what they most likely worship are themselves. They turn from God and fill the void with love of self. They are for freedom of expression to blaspheme as though that is the highest value. Unlimited freedom without any constraints.
