I myself, in common with many others, was full of sorrow when your dispatch arrived with the unsettling news that the holiness and beauty of Aramaic has been usurped by Latin;
But Greek was okay? :confused:

A recently found letter from early Christians indicates that Latin was not at first accepted as a liturgical language, as it was the vernacular.

I find this eerily similar to what has been going on in the last 50 yrs…

Since it is a satire article from a satirical Catholic website, I will go ahead and think that you are sharing the humour. But still, this would be more appropriate under the forum of Back Fence.

Good observation. I should have known better.

I didn’t realize it until I read some of the other stories on the home page.

True, but also apropos for this page as well, given it’s subject. I am just trying to lighten the mood here a bit, which can often get a bit stuffy and legalistic.
God bless!

This unearthed letter is so valuable! Sixtus which is mentioned in it, is the Pope that reigned between 115/116 – 125 A.D. This letter is extremely ancient!

There was recently a thread started in this forum from a 21st century Christian who professed hatred for the Novus Ordo Mass. Alas, I am unable to locate it at present. This one, while cloaked in satire, seems acceptable, despite some arguably “less than Catholic behavior.” Could someone please direct me to the other thread, or has it somehow gone missing?

I find Eye of the Tiber articles to be hit and miss. Some are very humorous, others not so much. This one falls in the latter category because of its false assumption that language is the reason why some people prefer the EF.

In the Comments section of the article, “Athelstane” does a good job explaining why this satire fails. At least this article clarifies one thing I’ve long suspected of EOTT - their disdain for traditional Catholics.

I read his/her comments. While it may seem the least important change to traditionalists, the change from the Latin to several hundred vernaculars was the most noticeable one. Most people wouldn’t know the difference between a Latin OF and an EF, especially if EP1 is used. But then I’m always looking for some continuity between the forms; IOW, “there is to be no rupture.” I understand many people don’t like that.
