At any rate, the Vatican is backing off the story a little, and “A senior Vatican official, who declined to be named, said there was a “sense of regret” within the Holy See over the encounter,.”

So yesterday we were told we couldn’t trust what Vatican officials were saying and now we are told we can . The Pope met with her. The left is just gonna have to get over it

Yes it does. In this case the obvious accomodation was to take her name off the marriage certificates.
And part of this does fall on the responsibility of the administration of the clerks offices. It’s fairly common for a law to change, or for court rulings to change without giving the actual “boots-on-the-ground” people a chance to implement the changes.

It’s like the Law says, “Do it this way. NOW!” and everyone expects the changes to occur with the snap of a finger, without realizing that there could be thousands of marriage certificate forms that need to be printed, which means contacting a vendor to do the printing, and setting up the new orders, proofreading, approving, printing, delivering…

Heaven forbid you have to hire extra workers to rush the changes through, because that will mean spending more tax dollars…

If the court were to change the definition of marriage, the judge would have been wise to say, “Six months from now…” which would’ve given everyone time to implement the changes and given Davis time to print new forms without her name.

Well, there’s been some play on her part, too. Being in a receiving line with other people is not exactly a ten minute private meeting, which is what hew lawyer described.

She shook his hand in a receiving line with 20-30 other people. All we given rosaries. The pope met privately with only former students and family. The Vatican says Davis’ presence in the receiving line was not to be construed as papal approval of her action (paraphrased). It’s in the official statement from the Vatican. I didn’t copy the link correctly. I apologize.

Edit: The link in the post above mine works fine. This one should, too.

I’m glad the Vatican made an official statement. Clears the whole thing up.

Quite different from the tale Kim told isn’t it?

She reminds me of Balloon Boy.
Obviously the Pope has a lot more Christian charity than we are seeing in this thread. This woman that is so roundly mocked by so many was given the honor of meeting the Vicar of Christ . Maybe he knows something we don’t

It’s hard to be charitable to someone who used the Holy Father in such a way, and even the Church says he was “used.”

***“I was very disappointed to see the pope having been used that way, and that his willingness to be friendly to someone was turned against him,” Father Martin said in an interview on Friday. ***

A lot of us are trying to be charitable to Mrs. Davis, but can’t help but share Fr. Martin’s feelings because we LOVE our Holy Father so much.

I was given the honor of meeting a saint when that saint was pope, St. Pope John Paul II. He held both of my hands in his. It probably wasn’t decorous, but I touched his cheek and said “God bless you always,” then he smiled, blessed me, actually touched my cheek, and I moved on.

I could tell, without a doubt, that I was in the presence of a saintly person, but I don’t think he knew much about me, despite his genius and depth of insight. I doubt Pope Francis knew anything about Mrs. Davis other than she is a child of God like all of us are. I hope she knew she was in the presence of a saintly man, though I have my doubts. Not a word of the great honor of meeting the pope has come from her camp.

Since when does father Martin represent “the church” I think it is sad that when the pope meets with people we disagree with We claim he was duped he knew what he was just as he knew what he was doing when he hugged the homosexual who he personally invited to meet with him as he had taught him in argentina. Sad to see the vitriol directed at this woman who stood up for freedom of religion and was chosen to meet the vicar of Christ .

Lying (referencing Mrs. Davis and her attorney) is not the way to most peoples’ hearts.

Loving (referencing Pope Francis) is.

Many of us agree with Fr. Martin, who is part of the Church because we LOVE Pope Francis.

And that’s all I have to say to you about it. I’m not going to keep repeating the same thing.

If you feel so strongly about her, you could write her a letter of support.

I’m sorry that the Pope disappointed you. Perhaps he needs better handlers so the left doesn’t have vapors every time he acts like the Pope

You won’t get anywhere twisting my words. The POPE did NOT disappoint me. No one disappointed me. And I’m an ultra-conservative, by the way.

I felt overwhelmed by the pope’s graciousness and warmth and love and humility. I don’t think he could EVER disappoint me. I LOVE Pope Francis and pray for him morning and evening.

Please note I had deleted the post you replied to. Too nice a day to be arguing about the pope.
