I was interested to see this post. I usually am on the “ask an apologist” site. I got here because of a Google search looking for an obituary relating to him. Bishop George was my uncle. He was an interesting man.

How blessed you are, though I would say that “interesting” doesn’t start to cover it.

Fr. Dn. Diak,

I attended the second part of the Priestly Parastas for Bishop George on Monday night. I was disappointed in the low numbers of laity and priests, but was glad to see Met. Nicholas and some of his priests make the trip from Johnstown. The funeral liturgy was even more disappointing. Neither the Latin ordinary bishop nor auxillary bishop of Pittsburgh were in attendance nor the Latin ordinary bishop of Greensburg, nor the Abbot from St. Vincent College. I guess they were too busy to attend or send any representative in their place. Was happy to see a lot of eparchial priests from Van Nuys in attendance. The Eastern Catholic bishops from the U.S. and Canada in attendace were:

Ruthenian: Met. Basil,Bishop John, Bishop William, Bishop Gerald.

Ukrainian: Met. Stephen Soroka of Archeparchy of Philidelphia…

Romanian: Bishop John of Canton.

Byzantine Rutheian/Slovak: Bishop John Pazak of Toronto.

There may have been a Melkite bishop there, but I will have to look at my photos to check.

Fr. Dn. Diak,

Byzantine Rutheian/Slovak: Bishop John Pazak of Toronto.
He’s a Ukrainian GCC bishop, for Slovaks in Canada. There are no Ruthenian Bishops in Canada. Only the 4 in the US and 2 in Europe.
